Apple buys locationary

 

While most can agree the first releases of Apple's mapping software had numerous problems with both the location data and the visual displays of the locations, it looks like Apple is again addressing known flaws in their mapping software as reported by PCMag.

From the article it sounds as if Locationary uses multiple sources to verify the coordinates and then presents the information in a standardized format. If the information found on Locationary is made available to the general public much like Google's, then those responsible for creating and maintaining POI files could have another source for verifying locations other than Yahoo or Street View.
