My experience witha nuvi 3597 5" GPS

Has anyone tried using the Garmin Vent Mount with the larger 2700 series of Nuvi's. The one I have is not a Garmin one and works fine with the smaller units but the 2797 is able to break it free from the vent. The Garmin unit seems to have a positive screw clamp that fastens to the vent louvers and if this is correct it should make it a more solid connection.

Scroll up a bit to for my 8/5/2014 report telling of my experience with the Garmin mount and a 5" nuvi. For extra reports, read the User Comments on the mount at Amazon, taking care to look at the 1- and 2-star reviews which are 23% of the user reviews. Even during the year I used the mount before it broke, it did need to be reseated every month or so.

Garmin Air Vent Mount

Well, your post is certainly very timely. I haven't tried a larger screen GPS yet, but I will very soon! I am currently using the Garmin Nuvi 360 and it seems fine with it. I do have a Garmin Nuvi 3597 on order.

I did notice this on the Garmin Air Vent Mount web site: "Not compatible with 6-inch and 7-inch models." Just a bit ago I checked the specifications of my Garmin Nuvi 360 and the weight is listed as 5.1 ounces (144.6 g). The Garmin Nuvi 3597 is listed as 6.8 oz (192 g). I suppose at the risk of splitting hairs, my Nuvi 360 also has an SD adapter card containing a micro SD card in it.

The Nuvi 2797 lists a 7 inch screen and is 12.4 ounces (352 g). I would caution against using the air vent mount with the Nuvi 2797.

Thanks

Thanks Jim, you have answered my query exactly. (What a great site this is) I have been using the bean bag mount for all of my other units but have always been a bit worried about heat through the windshield on hot summer days. I usually end up propping a baseball cap over the unit to give it a bit of shade but they always seem to slide of at the most inopportune moments. I have one of the Akron vent mounts and they have worked with the smaller Nuvi’s but my 2555 can sometimes overpower the vent louver clamps.

Velcro!!!

I wanted a simple technique to mount my iPhone in the car, and the suction cup mounts and other options were just to large and obnoxious. So I bought a very simple, and the smallest case for the iPhone, and used a small strip of Velcro. I chose a color of Velcro so it blends in with the dash, put the Velcro on the back of the iPhone case, and now I just stick the iPhone on the dash with the Velcro. Absolutely simple, elegant and unobtrusive. When the iPhone is mounted, it looks OEM, fits right in and doesn't impede my use of anything else.

Not working on some cars

Just rented a Mitsubishi and my favorite vent mounts don't work because of the shape and the size of the vents
