Waiting...

I hope my airvent mount arrives this week.

Ordered One

I ordered one on April 19, and am now waiting for delivery. Maybe this week. edh

Garmin design not universal

Looked like a good design. Unfortunately, it will not clip onto the vanes on my 2010 Chrysler minivan. The vanes are too wide.

I've been using the Akro mount and do like it except for the fact that is very cumbersome to attach and especially to remove. It also is spaced out further from the vent than what I would prefer.

Vent mounts do make good sense in that it makes the GPS much more easy to reach than when its on the windshield or on a beanbag.

Good deal!

Thanks!

I am glad that you mentioned that because we have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan and the vents might be similarly sized! By any chance are you able to measure and post what the maximum width would be?

Received & Installed

Works well. Drove over some rough roads and all remained in place.

Great too for iphone too

Mountek nGroove Universal CD Slot Mount

I have one of these and it works great for my iphone. Of course I do not play cds so it becomes useful as the slot is used for the mount.

Just got mine

I have recieved mine and installed it. It is much sturdier than the previous one I had and comes off easily. (wish I had this one sooner.) As for the comments about heat in the winter. I always divert my ventilation to the floor vent and not have any heating/cooling in my face lol.

Arrived

My Garmin Air Vent mount arrived and I like it. It grips the vent fins nicely does not move around much at all and is more or less out of the way.

My new Accord has a much higher dash than my old one and having the 780 mounted at the air vent is a much better placement than on the beanbag way up on the dash or in the information display cubby.

Glad I got it.

Garmin Air Vent Mount

I have a 2010 Honda Accord and based on your report, maybe I should finally spring for one of these then!

Hhmmmmm, blocking the AC in AZ?

Hmmmm, living in AZ I don't think I want anything blocking the cold air flow out of my dash vents during the hot summer. Heck, depending on the vehicle, you can't get the vents to stay adjusted with nothing mounted on them. wink

OK.....so where the heck am I?

...

I've heard that these mounts can actually damage air vents; besides, one needs to look down depending on where the vent is located.

mountek universal VS garmin specific

as mentioned earlier, if you have a cd slot or any slit/gap anywhere on the dashboard really, i def recommend the mountek.

you CAN still play cds while the mount is inserted, as per mountek's claim, so thats even better.

there are TWO products available:

made specifically for nuvi/streetpilots - $30 shipped
http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroove-6000g-Garmin-StreetPil...

universal - $20 shipped (thru ebay! not amazon)
www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroove-Universal-Phones-Devices/dp/B...

--------
i have the universal one, and i like it because i can place my gps the same height as in cars with built-in navs.

--------
i do have a qs for any one that has the nuvi specific one. how far does the gps stick out in front of the cd slot?

thanks.

Approximately 2.5 inches

thanks!

theyre actually promoting their new product the "snap," which uses a magnetic adhesive, so u can just snap your device on to the mount, and its designed to make it look like your device is floating in front of the dash.. kinda cool.

Interesting concept

The Mountek looks interesting, if only I can convince the wife to ditch her beanbag. She really likes it. She didn't like the vent mount, which I liked in my vehicle.

do not need to worry about it blocking cool air flow in Arizona

I live in Tucson and drove about 30 miles across Tucson in traffic yesterday and it was in the 90's. Had no problem with cooling the car or blocking the air flow with the new Garmin vent mount and my 3790lmt. Have had it long enough to be able to say you do not need to worry about it blocking air flow or cooling in Arizona.

It also had the beneficial effect of keeping the 3790 cool even when the sun was beating down directly on it.

As you can see in these photos I took in my car it really does not block the vent flow.

Air Vent Mount, I like it, but another brand is preferred

I like the Air Vent Mount but prefer another brand.
1. The mount/GPS unit does not interfere with air from the mount.
2. The cool air from the mount will help cool the unit.
3. The GPS is not in the sun like before.
4. The unit is not as visable from outside the car if on a vent mount.
5. I have purchased and tested 3 brands of mounts, one being the Garmin. I prefer the ME-A03 mount from Ebay because it's very easy to remove/replace the GPS.....you can easily remove the GPS and leave the mount in the air vent. It only cost 6.00, no shipping cost, each so you can buy a spare.
6. The Garmin mount is very vell built but if you remove and reattach the GPS often, as I do, it's a hassle. Garmin should look into a design to allow for easy removal and attaching of the GPS, leaving the mount in the vent. I don't think you want to pop out the ball every time...it will eventually get loose.

I Never Used The Vents, because

I was hesitant to block the flow of cold or hot air in my car. Have others found this to be an issue?

Garmin Air Vent Mount

I am getting close to ordering one of these. My biggest convern is if it will fit on the air vent in my 2010 Honda Accord. How far apart do the plastic pieces need to be for this to work? It seems from the photographs that I have seen that the vent needs to be a bit on the bigger side for this to fit, but maybe it is not as big as it looks in the pictures.

This continues to function

This continues to function well for me in my vehicles. Stays put and is at the right level to see clearly.

Dual Garmin Air Vent Mounts?

Well, despite my originally posting this, I didn't actually buy one of these until just a few days ago. I did see the tip about Crutchfield, so I ordered from them. And, even though I was somewhat concerned before ordering about whether this would be compatible with my Honda Accord air vent, it seems to work just great.

Now, I am actually considering one or two more of these. My wife's Dodge Grand Caravan might be a candidate or I could also go with a Vehicle Specific Mount for it. The other thought is to run dual Garmin Air Vent Mounts. Even though I use my Garmin Nuvi 360 for day to day travels, I do still have a couple of Garminfones. My desire to also use the Garminfone is because it has built in traffic. Also, things like weather and gas prices are on it.

Anyway, does anybody here think running dual air vent mounts is riskier than just one mount, since it would restrict air flow, etc., throughout the vehicle?

Dodge Caravan

I use an air vent mount in my 2013 Grand Caravan. It does restrict the flow of 1 of the 4 vents in the front of the vehicle although not enough to bother. I much prefer this location for my Nuvi. Easy to reach, good satellite reception, away from my view of the road.

Looks Interesting

I use a Arkon GN047 with my 2002 Ford Focus - not a lot of good other options.

The GN047 was difficult to remove, so I ended up buying a spare dash vent ($5) from the junkyard and swap the entire vent in and out when I want to use the GPS.

The Garmin has the advantage that the wheel makes it easier to release the jaws, but I suspect the JAWS are too thick to work with the Focus vents - the i.trek had this problem.

EDIT - Condensation is an issue, but on the Focus, you can close the vent and still use the mount - I ended up doing this - plenty of airflow from the other three vents, but I rarely have rear seat passengers.

sounds great

that is interesting, I didn't know this kind on CD slot mount exists, I may give a try for my HTC, thanks!

Good mount if it fits

I have been using an Akron mount and recently purchased the Garmin version.
The Garmin is far more stable and much easier to attach. However the vent vanes on my Chrysler Town & Country are too wide for the Garmin. But, it did work well on a recent rental, the brand of which I never paid much attention to.
My only reservation with the Garmin is the outrageous price. I bought the Garmin mount from Crutchfield, and would have returned except they charge $10.00 to make a return, so I just kept it for when I drive something other than my Chrysler.

I second that. It only good when if it fits.

I had one long time ago and it wobbling. Buy a good one and it will do you good but I still don't like it.

This

sailornorm wrote:

I've had to remove my vent mount a couple of times. The "finger" that extends to the rear of the vent tab has a hook on the end keeping it from sliding off. I've used a narrow blade screwdriver to press the finger rearward and up to release it. A flashlight helps. It's actually easier to do it than describe the process.

This is the easiest way to unhook and remove the vent mounts.
Works every time !

Nuvi 765T and Nuvi 255WT (but honestly I find myself using Navigon on iPhone most of the time)

Tried One From eBay

I bought one from eBay and tried it. Didn't care for it and went back to the standard windshield mount.

Great Product

I have used this in many different rental cars and it has worked perfectly every time: Volvo, VW, Jeep, Nissan, Dodge to name a few.

I bought the

Garmin-branded air vent mount last week. I have it installed in the car but haven't actually driven with it yet. I'm very pleased with it. It's a nicely engineered piece. A significant different between this and the crappy Arkon (??) mounts is that the (single) jaw is either made of rubber or rubber-coated so it REALLY grabs the plastic vent louver. It holds tight!

I have found the Arkon style mounts to be absolutely deficient since purchasing a heavy 5" Nuvi...it goes flying off around every corner sad

While the $20 price of admission seems a bit steep, I purchased from Amazon so I could return it if not 110% satisfied.

Try a different vent or getting accustomed to the new placement

You're basically restricted to your vehicle's vent placements. I guess, it takes a bit used to. Have you tried using it on the driver side vent? On my car, I like my Arkon on the center vent. My wife's, she does not like the vent mount, she likes the bean bag mount, closer to her reach AND since it is on the dash, less shift off the road.

excellent

I have been using my vent mount for a while...I find it excellent all around. Easy to use, unmount the nuvi, and not restrictive to air flow in any appreciable way.

Failure of Garmin brand vent mount

My genuine Garmin air vent mount, the one discussed in the original post of this thread, failed at the end of Day 1 of a 1500-mile trip in the past week.

The mount never did fit well with a Subaru Forester vent but did work pretty well once I got it mounted. Now, just before the 1-year anniversary of owning it, the upper rubber clamp broke right where it joins the hard plastic piece. I looked back at the Amazon Customer Reviews for this mount and see that this is a common failure point.

I strongly recommend against buying the Garmin branded air vent mount.

Thankfully, Karen (my nuvi voice) directed me to a Best Buy at the end of Day 2 of my journey and even though the web sites stated that no Denver-area Best Buy or WalMart had any Garmin mount in stock, I did find a single mount in the store, the newer (non-bean bag) friction mount. Whew!

The new friction mount fits quite well on a Subaru Forester and I may stick with it as my GPS mount. On the other hand, I may look around and see if I should try one of the non-Garmin-brand air vent mounts.

Update after 15 months of use

rjrsw wrote:

I ordered the Garmin Air Vent Mount Part Number: 010-11952-00 from Crutchfield and received it today. They do not charge sales tax and shipped via UPS for free so total was under $20.

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/prod126697.html

It installed easily and is smaller than what it appears to be in the photos on the web page. It is rock solid when mounted and far more solid and much easier to mount and dismount than the Arkon GN047 I had used.

Still solid performer after 15 months and the best Garmin mount I have used, only needed to retighten it one time during that period.

I also have the non bean bag Garmin friction mount and it works fine but leaves a oily looking residue on every dash it sat on and the shiny residue will not clean off the dash.

Garmin Vent mount

Has anyone tried using the Garmin Vent Mount with the larger 2700 series of Nuvi's. The one I have is not a Garmin one and works fine with the smaller units but the 2797 is able to break it free from the vent. The Garmin unit seems to have a positive screw clamp that fastens to the vent louvers and if this is correct it should make it a more solid connection.
