Garmin Express software

For those, who like new stuff. Garmin released new software known as "Garmin Express". Haven't tested it, but according to Garmin:

Garmin Express is your one-stop shop for keeping your nüvi®, zūmo® or dēzl™ up-to-date.

This software is for:

  • Update Maps
  • Garmin Express downloads available map updates to your computer automatically, and alerts you when new maps are ready to install. You can even control download speed and schedules.

  • Transfer Favorites
  • Garmin Express lets you transfer all your favorites from one device to another with one click.

  • Install Voices & Vehicles
  • Browse and install free custom voices and vehicles.

  • Back Up Files
  • Garmin Express makes it easy to back up and restore saved addresses, routes and waypoints to and from your computer.

If you need download there is link to Garmin site:
http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html

Looks like improved version of automatic updates software, witch was rather terrible. Maybe this time they got it right.

On my 885T I use full screen. I don't use anything else.

I'm under the impression that there are no photos of intersections, only styles of intersections that have the blanks filled in for what lane is for what turn.

I used the word photos as that's what the poster used but in fact they are photoreal views. They look like actual photos of an intersection or highway exit, right down to the overhead signs that you will see, with a large arrow(s) showing which exit lane(s) to be used.

error 2753

When I want to install Garmin Express v 2.1.5 I have an error message 2753.

Anyone knows the solution to the problem.

I have Windows 8 Pro.

Interchange Views

There are going to be three interchange views on the 2013 models:

http://sites.garmin.com/nuvi/

Normal view,
Split Screen Junction View
Split Screen Birds Eye Junction View.

It is unclear to me whether you have a choice of JV or BEJV, and also unclear whether this is 2013 Exclusive Feature or whether a .jcv file update will allow the feature on older models.

No idea

No idea but an uninstall and then reinstall GE will probably fix the problem.

Garmin Express Update 2.1.6

Just downloaded the current update and seems to work well. Being new to Garmin(Nuvi 2555LMT)since 2 weeks, I haven't noticed any obvious changes with this update to Garmin Express.
From what I've seen so far, I prefer the Express UI to the web page.

Garmin Express

Hi all

Ok I installed the latest version. When I ran it it wanted to install 2012.30 even though it is already on the nuvi 1450 LMT's SD card (internal memory is only 44mb now)

So it tried and then I got an error. I just chose ignore and then looked around the program. It seems not to see my 8 gig class 10 SD card. Any ideas people ? (please naturally)

So I'll just be sticking to the manual software for now.

2.1.8 (windows)is currently available. For me it's buggier than earlier versions in that it insists that updates (firmware, map, voices) for a 2595 are currently available even though all are already up to date.

I Hate It!

I updated my 765T last night (replaced the battery on it too yesterday - the original dated from 12/2009) and I was presented with Garmin Express. Yuck! First off, it is a CPU hog. One CPU of my dual processor system was constantly running at 50% with GarminExpress.exe. Then after about one hour the update failed. Turns out there is not enough room on my device for these new maps (first time this has happened). I checked my Nuvi and alll of the 2013.30 maps had been deleted and the device was empty of all maps. I had to empty the temporary download directory, which took some doing to find, and retry the operation specifying the SD card. Eventually it updated and the maps appear to be working. Then I discovered it left all the temporary files behind consuming about 3GB of disk space on my PC. Finally I discovered it did not update MapSource or Base Camp with the latest maps.

I really want the old installer back. I already deinstalled Garmin Express as it is just too problematic. I suppose at the next update, 2014.10, I'll have to install it again but I will be deleting it when I am done.

Just

Just download either of these copies of Garmin's MapUpdater software and use it for the next update:

PC version -

download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

MAC version -

download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.dmg

It's the latest version of your "old installer" that you want back.

This sucks

Garmin Express is applying an update to my 765T then requiring a restart before it will apply the map update. This is an endless loop.

How can I get mapinstall to have a new map set on it, or use lifetime updates. Garmin seems to have taken lifetime updates off the site.

Hmmmmmmm

765T

Used GE to update the lifetime maps on my 765T and it told me I had to install to the SD as I didn't have enough space on the main unit. Using the old GarminMapupdater it would just delete the old map and install the new one in its place (never had a problem in 7 map updates)

I deleted my 2013.30 map (after a full backup as always) and GE installed the 2013.40 maps on the main unit fine.

Montana 650T
On my Montana 650T it would download the maps but fail on the installation portion. Called Garmin and they sent me the link to the LifetimeMapUdater file and that worked as expected.

The Garmin CS rep said they have been experiencing some issues with GE "because it is new"

I think GE has potential but appears to have to many BETA type issues for my liking.

Garmin just needs to stick with one, I think.

And for some reason I can't get Express to update the maps for Basecamp. Ugh.

Many have had the same problem. You need to update again using MapUpdater and install to Device and PC.

You can read this thread to see many with the same problem.

Garmin nuvi 2455LMT (wife uses nuvi 255w) (sold C330)

failed

Could not load map update to 2350LMT with it, failed after a couple of hours. Emailed Garmin support and they told me not to use it, to use Update instead.

Truly poor QA and support at Garmin, imho. then again, what does anybody want for a $169 purchase anyway.

GE is shaky at best

GE looks good, is an attempt to roll several traditional programs into one, but fails in several ways, e.g., inability to load maps to device as well as Basecamp in one sitting.

Keep the previous generation of programs current to work around GE's shortcomings.

Garmin, get your stuff together!

I went on the Garmin site to download the new map, went on dashboard and clicked on update map. I was transferred to page to download Garmin Express So I guess you can't just download the maps anymore. I bit the bullet and downloaded GE, and the new map. So far, no issues. I will let you know.

Nuvi 50LM Nuvi 2555LM

finally loaded

I actually forgot about this - Lifetime updater gave me a notification that a new version of the software was out. I downloaded it and it ended up being the Garmin Express utility; Garmin must now be pushing this out. I actually at first it told me that I had a map and GMT update but these were already installed. I ended up unplugging the unit and closing the app - I then restarted the app and plugged my device back in and the map update was no longer there - I ran the GMT update again and all the notifications were cleared.

I think it is nice so far - looking forward to using it for the next map update.

Almost there...

It still occasionally adds my device again so that I will have two showing in the pull down tab. So far I have no idea what triggers it and I have not been able to duplicate it. One thing that I do really like though, is that it gives you a pop-up notice on the screen that something new is available even if the unit is not connected to the PC. This is really good in my case as for some reason I get email notifications from Garmin for new available updates on just about every product they make EXCEPT my 2595! rolleyes

2.1.12 Express now 'automatic update' to replace lifetime update

Same here - I received the automatic notification that new software was available. The new software was Garmin Express, which replaced my Garmin Lifetime Updater. Like yours, Express downloaded the latest map (2013.40) and recommended that I connect my device (GPS model & serial number was automatically saved to Express) and load it to my unit...but I had already loaded 2013.40 onto my GPS when it first came out using Lifetime Updater.

By the way, the version number for my Garmin Express utility (that came as an automatic update today [3/24/2013] to replace my Lifetime Updater) is: Product Version 2.1.12 It appears Garmin has been constantly updating its new Express utility. I'm guessing Garmin started out advertising Express and has used the early users that decided to download it as Guinea Pigs of sorts to figure out what needed to be fixed. And now I'm guessing Garmin now believes that their new Express utility is finally good enough for them to send it to their customers as an 'automatic update' to replace Lifetime Updater.
