Can maps go on SD card that already has Music on it?

No problem with upgrade... Just got back from a quick test....

2013.30 NA loaded on my 660 with 29.8Mb Left...

A question for 'Next' map upgrade.......

I already have a 4Gb SD card in the 660, with 1.5Gb of music on it.... Therefore, 2.5Gb of free space...

Next time there is an upgrade, Will the Updater see the Free space on the SD card (that has folders of music on it, and automatically put the update there.....

OR....

Do I have to put in a blank or freshly formatted Fat 32 SD card?

Just nosy for "NEXT TIME" as I've already removed as much as I could....

No problem with European map

I put a 4GB card with MP3's on it in my 660 and then put the European maps on the same card without a problem. BUT, I copied the maps from another 2GB card I bought off of Ebay rather than go through the download/install routine.
I assume it doesn't matter because the map goes into it's own folder, provided there is enough free space on the card. Don't know what kinds of checks Garmin performs with their map installer for North America though.

Garmin Nüvi 660 & 3490LMT with ecoRoute HD, Nüvi 855 gone to GPS heaven

Thanks!

Thanks.... I've got a 6Gb Mode 8 card I can copy the MP3's onto, and then they'll be 4.5Gb of free space.....

I guess I can take my time doing it.... seeing that I have the latest map now...

By the way, Used the 660 with new maps all day long..... and it worked like a charm!!!

Maps and music on sd card

It is ok to do that. My gps is nuvi 670 and I have a 8gb and I have maps, music and photos. I have also spare maps to update with mapselect.

Thanks

Question for you folks....

As long as I'm planning on switching out....

Is there any advantage to a Mode 6 or 8 card on a Nuvi 660?

I know some devices mis-interepret Mode 10 as mode 0 and will prompt it isn't fast enough....

Anyone done any tests on this?

P.S. The 4Gb card I had in the 660 is a Mode 4

Thanks

A from the 4Gb Mode 4 card

A from the 4Gb Mode 4 card to laptop drive was 12Mb/sec.
Copy from Laptop drive to 8Gg Mode 6 card was 20Mb/sec..

I don't know what the USB1 of the 660 will do....

.

Don't forget the card reader in the nuvi is not a USB port. As well, the read speed of cards is far higher than the write speeds. I use a Class 4 in both mine, and no problems with lag for reading the POI's, or JCV's.

BTW, I've never heard of a Class 8 card.

It's an 8Gb, class 6

It's an 8Gb, class 6 card

I've a 16Gb class 8 card, but that may be overkill... I'll probably not be adding much more music to this card anyway....

4.5Gb Free space...

Tried it, and music works....

and it routes a route too...

So I may be good to go??

SD speed class

I don't think the SD speed class will make much difference when using the SD card in your nuvi ... especially for an older model like the 660. Where it can make a big difference is when copying files to the card if you use a card reader on your PC or laptop rather than using the USB attachment to your nuvi.

For map updates, I have started putting the SD card in my laptop (using the cloning method for map update) instead of connecting the nuvi with the USB. It doesn't affect the map download time, but the update step goes MUCH MUCH faster ... just a few minutes per device. I am using 8 GB class 10 cards in both of my nuvi's.

It's probably a Class 6.

According to Wiki, there is no such animal:

However, it can make a mouse go blind trying to read the card class with that print size! mrgreen

Ok

Ok

Mode 8

The consumer Cannon HD camcorder I have supports Mode 4 to mode 8 without a firmware update, and Mode 10 and above with a factory firmware update... which I took advantage of... I have not seen anything above Mode 10 yet......

I have multiple MFG's Mode 8 cards, some of which were developed for broadcast use (JVC, Panasonic, Sandisk, and one other whose odd name escapes me).... prior to the MFG (Panasonic) taking 4 cards and incorporating them into a Raid 0 array within one card (P2).
