cezoot Garmin 2595

If i have all poi built in garmin 2595 so plz I have many questions
1- do i still need sox if i converted the mp3 alerts into wav sounds with another programme ?
2- How can i see the names of POI to match the sound alerts with it or is there anyway to see Garmin contents when i plug it to the PC ?
3-will I place the sound alerts together in one folder or separate matching with their suitable categories
I mean put the sound alert for the restaurants in the same category of the restaurants in the garmin and do the same with each separate
4- how please can i do the setting for the speed limits , I think the experts of Garmin 2595 know that it has speed limits cover all the roads so all i need
to know where i put the speed limit alert sound
5- are the files or the categories for the 2595 in csv or gps ..
sorry im beginner and confused , any chance from any online please to teach me ..thanks for your patience .

Welcome to the POI Factory

Welcome to the POI Factory cezoot.

You might want to start with the Garmin Nav Systems FAQs to learn about POI loader and creating/loading custom points of interest to your 2595.

To answer your questions...

1. no
2. you can only set alerts for custom POIs, so the names would be in the source file (.csv or .gpx)
3. sound alerts are usually placed in the same folder as the custom POI
4. you can't set speed alerts for the speed limits in the map. see the Garmin Alerts FAQ for more info
5. custom POI categories are set on your computer. files can be either .csv or .gpx

.

Custom POIs that you might load to the device to not affect the built in Points of Interest on the device.

The two sets of data remain separate on the GPS unit.

It's up to you to whether you want/need to install Custom POIs in order to supplement the built in Points of Interest on the device. But in any event, there's no need to "delete" the built in Points of Interest (which you cannot do anyway).

Yes, you do need SOX. SOX must be version 14.0.1 as later versions do not work with POI Loader.

I believe your unit (I don't have one) needs to have its storage mode changed in order to see the files using Windows Explorer. There are instructions here on the site about changing the storage mode.

According to Garmin's help files for POI Loader you are led to believe that sound files and icon files can be in one folder and the actual POI file in another. While I have been creating, loading and using POI for several years I have not personally tried this out. I just put the sound, icon and data together in the category folder.

Garmin doesn't alert if you exceed the speed limit shown other than turning the icon red in some units. This is a feature that many would like, but is not supported.

CSV or GPX??? That's a question most new users ask. The data contained in each is often exactly the same but the GPX format allows the file maintainer to have more control over how the data is displayed on the GPS screen. Also, GPX format files allow phone numbers to be dialed through a Bluetooth connection between the phone and the unit. You can load either type of file, just don't load both or you will get duplicates. The size of the downloaded file is different between the two, the GPX is an HTML file with control statements while the CSV is a comma separated value file. Both are text based and can be edited with Windows Wordpad or Notepad. The files are read by POI Loader which converts them to a third file format, the GPI which is stored on the 2595. It's the GPI file your unit uses as its database for custom locations.

We all were new users once. What is extremely helpful are the FAQs many users have written that cover a lot of the information you are trying to learn. Read through the FAQs and follow the procedures on how to convert the storage mode of your unit, perform a backup and, most importantly go to the Garmin support website and download the User manual for your unit. The "Getting Started Guide" packed in the box does little more than tell you how to turn the unit on and make a few simple entries.

The only way to be alerted to exceeding the speed limit is to pay attention to the signs along the road and your speed as displayed on either the speedometer or unit.
