Hi, I found about this place

Hi, I found about this place from a post by cash70 on other site. I'm from PR and will love to contribute to the site. How can I add a POI to an existing database?

THANKS

Blake0

I have added you to the top attractions file, you can go to the page and use the edit locations tab to start loading in your favorite area.

Thanks for the help

Miss Poi

Trip upcoming

We'll be heading to San Juan a bit later in the year and I'm already anxious to make use of the POIs you have entered. Hope I'll be able tocontribute additional POIs when we return. Great site here.

Puerto Rico POI

I am so glad to see this, I live in PR and ahve look all over the net for POI's in the area with no luck. I just purchased TOMTOM Navigator 6 for my Treo 750 because it said to have more poi's than any other including PR just to find that it has less than 20 and those are only some hospitals and some airports. I also have Mapopolis, that is now discontinue but has many POI's for PR but their list appears to be a few years old.
Anyway, I just stumbled into this site today, how can I help...

Jose

Puerto Rico POI

How can I add POI that I have marked on my TomTom to the databases here. For Starbucks file, I just visited a place at Caguas last Sunday that has a new Starbucks under construction and marked it on my GPS, how would I add that to your file and add yours to my GPS?

Jose

jagpr

since you live in the area would you like to be one of the moderators? Let me know and I can add you to the list and then you would have access to add whatever you like.

Thanks, I am glad you found the site.

Miss Poi

Puerto Rico POI

Sure, I just need to see how load the POI's.

Jose

you now have access to the

you now have access to the database, you may want to check what is already there before researching something that may be a duplicate location.
Thanks for you help with this. Welcome to the team

Miss Poi

Thanks

Thanks for the access to the Top Attractions database, I had added a couple of POI to it. I also have three Starbucks that aren't listed on the database and will like to add.

ok you have been added to

ok you have been added to the file blake:)

Miss Poi

Awesome!

jagpr and blake, is a good thing that you are both in PR. I was born and raised in Caguas, but now I live in the DC area. So I have been working on these files using information from the internet. It has been a bit slow because, as you know, most of the addresses I find give the road and then the Km. So it has been a bit time consuming to find all the addresses on online maps.

I have most of the addresses for the POIs I have identified. I just have to get on a map and find them. I am currently working on the POI for beaches. Please feel free to jump in or make suggestions for other POIs.

POI

MS Street and Trips 2006 has a lot of POI's when compare to other programs, I will try that once I get my main PC up again. TOMTOM really disapointed me on the POI info for PR.

Puerto Rico POIs

I also live in Puerto Rico and am interested in helping build POIs for PR!!! I have easy access to the latest issues of a local signature magazine called "Que Pasa" which is updated 4 times a year with everything from lodging info with addresses, beaches, bars, clubs, theaters, movie theaters, musseums, even scuba diving stuff!!!
I will now immerse myself in POI creation.

I have added you to the top

I have added you to the top attractions file it looks like I forgot to add a favorite restaurants file to this metro area. I will get that made today and add the contributors that have volunteered to it also.

Miss Poi

Great Work, Can I help?

I just got a TomTom One and live in Bayamon, PR and work in Old San Juan, PR.

I like adding POIs to my unit, and would like to share them with all here. I can also contribute to the files.

Is there a tutorial on how to generate the files?

Thanks!

6,700 POIs available for Puerto Rico

I just figured out how to use GPABabel to convert the USGS GNIS database to TomTom and GPX POIs. They came out very accurate, and I want to share them with this site.

I have 6,700 with descriptions for things like rivers, lakes, roads, towns, beaches, monuments, historical sites, churches, post offices, malls, cementeries, parks, etc.

I would like to submit the file for the site to make available to all. Please contact me at the email in my profile.

Thanks!

Hugo S.

Greattttttttt

I also have a tomtom one ... and it sounds like you have a great list of POI if you are willing to share that would be great. let me know

Thanks for all the contributions

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has contributed to this area.
I am from Puerto Rico as well; but from the northwest coast area. (Aguadilla to be exact) I will try my best to help out and try to add different POI's for the northwest coast.
Currently I am new to the GPS era smile I currently have a Sprint HTC 6700 Smartphone with TomTom Navigator 6 using a Holux M-1200 GPS receiver. I also have been using my Laptop with Microsoft Streets and Trips and Mappoint.
What I have been doing is adding different locations to my favorite list in TomTom now I just need to be converting from Favorite to POI and also try to add different locations I can find and add them to here. Let's try our best to make this site the best site out there for adding POI's for Puerto Rico since i have search all over and have only found this one.
What we all can do to help out to this noble cause is use Google Earth as well to find different areas and try to make the different POI's. Like I said I am new to this but I will do my best to help out.

Boricua!

I need some help from the PR natives. I have a list of around 23 Walgreens stores in PR that I can't find the corrs. for using GPS visualizer.

Maybe someone here can help (LMK)?

What exactly do you need?

I can help you out but like I said I am new to this.
I can try to do my best to help you out within my spare time.
Also I would like to mention that today I just installed Garmin software on my PDA and it is working great with the Puerto Rico map. Now I need to figure out how it works compared to TOMTOM. Also is there a way to extract the poi's from the default map in Garmin?

prbadboy, update your contact page

prbadboy,

Please update your contact page so that I can send you a PM with the information. What I need is coordinates for some 23 stores in PR.

Garmin Nüvi 650, 255WT

Done

I just updated my contact information.
LOL i forgot a checkmark smile

Info. Received.

Info. Received.

I received you email. I replied with some suggestions.
Let me know.

All Walgreens coming verry soon

All the coordinates was given to DRMCMTR so he will be bringing the update to use very soon.
I still need to learn how to do it myself smile
Also I would like to mention to all that Google Earth has helped me a los to get all the coordinate for places. All I need now is how to convert them to standard poi files. Have a nice day everybody.

File has be loaded!

prbadboy wrote:

I have created and loaded the Walgreens PR file to this project. I like to thank prbadboy for his time and effort towards completing the missing store.

Our language

Hi to all , recently i buy a new Mio c230 its not a top of the line but make a good work. I notice too many people from Puerto Rico and have a suggestion if the administration permit can we speak in spanish this is our language and im sure that we can understand better in our language. On the other hand i make too many turism trips inside the island and start to save poi's in my gps , right now im learning on how to update my gps with the data base but if all puertorricans help we can make our island more atractive to gps because we know that for the companies we only can be meassured in the amount of devices that we purchase only hospital and wrong toll plaza appears in the gps poi but the island have too many places of interest. Are you try to stop in a gas station using poi's ? or may be at Monumento al Jibaro? or Salinas SpeedWay? sure not, i do my best to put gas stations in the data base and other attractions. Well its all for now excuse my bad english and i said in spanish :
Puerto Rico lo hace mejor.

Take it from a Cuban

I have no objections to the POIs created to have Spanish information in them, however for posting on the board it should be in English, not only because it is the native language of the majority of members of POI Factory but English is the universal language spoken by many visitors from Europe and Asia.

As far as the MIO GPSr not having enough POIs built in for Puerto Rico that is not the case with the Garmin, my Nuvi 260 is loaded with POIs for PR, heck it even has POIs to get to Guavate.

So its all for now , until the next group.

Want to help

I'm a Puerto Rican living an Orlando (how strange). I'm trying to get POI's into my new TomTom One 720 so I'm glad I found out about you guys. In addition to the POI files mentioned above, there are 2 more on shopping centers and cemeteries. Cemeteries are creepy but any good Puertorican knows that the shopping centers/ malls serve as reference points to us.
I was working on hospitals and shopping centers until I found the shopping center file so now I'll just continue with the hospitals POI file.

I think a great source of data for getting POI's is MetroData (www.metropr.com). They make road maps down in PR and have most POI's covered. I think Google Map gets their stuff from them for the PR area.

Well, I am here in Puerto Rico for the next week or so. Thanks to all who have contributed. I am adding this all to my Magellan 1412 while I am here, and also to the 1412 I picked up for my dad (since he lives here in Caguas).

In my car I have a Magellan 1412 GPS. On my scooter (Kymco Xciting 500) I use a TomTom Rider 2nd edition.

Anxious To Contribute

POI'S- A new subject for me. I'm bored to death since retiring here 4 years ago from Florida. I have a Nuvi 300 that I Just installed Metroguide v7 on and I have a 2 gig chip in it. Just purchased a Garmin Gpsmap 76cx which I will install City Navagator America's 9.5 on so I think I'm set. I love to ride my motorcycle and make stops along the way, gathering poi's would be perfect for a guy that has every day free. Also have a 8 megapixel camera with 2 gig memory if needed. Tell me what you want and some instructions and I'll give it a shot. I don't know spanish yet but my wife is from here in San Sebastian and she can translate if needed. I'm very rarely in San Juan so I can only offer the west end of the island if you want it. There are so many beautiful places here to enjoy only if visitors knew where they are. Me too p.s pm is ok
