I'm all ears!

I have around 2000 POI for PR. You've got my attention for almost 7000 POI. Since I live in Bayamon, PR, I'm constantly adding POI's, however, when I get a nice amount, then I publish it. Feel free to drop me a message for a request. And if I have it, you have it!

POI for PR

Just spoke to www.metropr.com , told them exactly what I needed, and they will get back to me on this. Hopefully, they'll send me the info needed, I ask that no further contact is done to them regarding POI's for PR, since they will probably start charging for this info. As of now, I have no idea if they will charge me for this info, hopefully not. As soon as they give me this info, I will ask them if it's ok for me to share it. Will keep you updated on this issue as situation arises.

FORMAT

when i download the files they save as .cvs file and my gps deviece only have files that end in .map, i out the download files in poi's folder and they dont work. thanks for your help

UPS locations for Puerto Rico

Hi. Can someone please make a list available for UPS locations in Puerto Rico? These are the available addresses for all the locations on the island. http://www.ups.com/content/pr/en/locations/dropoff/index.htm...

contributer certification

Hi, im new here and really enjoy the site. Im currently living in Puerto Rico and would love to help and contribute to top attractions file. Im what is called a weekend roamer. I like to go out and explore different places. And now that Ive invested in a GPs, it adds to the fun. I know that i dont have the time on this site required to have the badges and such, but will try to get new cordinates as time permits. Thanks again for the great site.

Perhaps the first badge many earn is the contributor compass (and it goes by a lot of other names as well). You earn this by either contributing a POI file of your own or contributing to an existing POI file.

As you are new to using GPS units and want to get started, here are two paths you can follow:

1. When you find an interesting site use your unit to mark the location and save it as a favorite. Use an external program such as Mapsource or Extra_POI_Editor to download your favorites so you can see the GPS coordinates for the site. Submit that information to an existing file maintainer or post it in the discussion thread for the POI project. When the file is updated, you will receive your contributor badge.

2. Create your own POI file. Start by using an existing POI file as a model. A CSV is the easiest file to create and maintain. Using a third-party software program will help greatly in creating the file. Excel or a similar spreadsheet program is often used for creating and updating CSV or Comma Separated Variable POI files. These can also be created and updated using one of the many text editing programs as well.

For more full-featured programs that can be used to create not only CSV files but GPX files, I suggest one (or both) of the full featured editors. GEEPEEX Editor is offered by Phil Hornsby for a nominal fee and there are a great many on this forum that use his program. Many others use TurboCCC's Extra_POI_Editor. Each have their advantages and quirks but are easy to learn and you can become quickly proficient.

The other more common badges, the windmill is for being active on the site and contributing over a period of time to the discussion groups. The other more common badge, the stars show a long-term commitment to the site. There are still other special badges, but you already know about them.

A Little Help, Please

This may be slightly off topic, but I was wondering if I could ask one of you living in PR to verify my coordinates on two store locations?

I maintain the Batteries Plus POI file (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/14538)and their website shows 2 store locations in PR. I am not at all sure that I have the coordinates correct.

These are the 2 locations I would like to have verified:

Batteries Plus - Bayamon
Ave Comerio HF Plaza Local #2
Bayamon PR 00961
Phone: (787) 995-6898
-66.168051,18.409052 ????

Batteries Plus - Caguas
Luis Munoz Marin Ave
Rafael Cordero Corner U-15
Caguas PR 00725
Phone: (787) 743-6898"
-66.021691,18.243571 ????

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I would really appreciate that! I don't like to publish POI files here on the site with questionable data. Maybe I'm just too picky!?! wink

Coordinates

Hi Gary

I went and got the coordinates to the Batteries Plus (Caguas) location.

They are listed in various formats as follows:

Decimal Degrees: 18.2439 66.0219

Deg,MM,SS : 18DEG 14MM 38SS N
66DEG 1MM 19SS W

GPS Coordinate : 18deg 14.6333min
66deg 1.3167min

all at 155FT

Also i took a picture of the store:

Will try to go tomorrow to the Bayamon location.

Hope this helps. Have a safe weekend!

Cool!

Thanks MobileDawg, even the photo was neat to see.

One question - I put your coordinates into Google Earth and they are pretty much in the middle of the street. Is the store on the east or west side of Ave L Munoz Marin?

Here is a Google Earth screenshot: http://i27.tinypic.com/2e1simv.jpg

Its hard to tell just looking at rooftops. I also tried Bing Maps, but they don't have any "bird's eye" views of PR.

Thanks again!

Satellite picture

Hi Gary. I took your screen-shot and marked where the Batteries Plus store is located. That's weird that my coordinates point to the middle of the street, cause i went inside the [P]arking lot, read the coordinates off my GPs and that's where i took the picture (as you can see the front part of my gray car in the picture, also you can see the reflection of it on the store door.

Here is your screen-shot enhance with location:

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b154/shadowolff/battplus.j...

Its hard to ID the store on the google map since its an old pic (2006), that store in particular i believe its less than 2yrs old.

Extra Effort

Thanks for the extra effort. Once you have had a chance (no rush) to check the Bayamon store, I'll issue an update to the file.

Its great when we can all help each other like this! grin

I want to contribute

I live in Puerto Rico (Caguas) and want to help adding POI's to let people know my country. I just started yesterday creating a .cvs file in Excel with more than 75 interest places, mainly known by locals. I'll be posting this file soon.

I will add more places such as new restaurants, atractions, sports facilities (Central American and Caribbean Games will be held in PR in 2010!) and so.

Thanks to everyone contributing with this effort. Special thanks to Miss POI for her personal integration into this project.

You are welcome

Can't wait...

Can't wait til this thing is fully operational. Great job you guys.

I Want To Contribute

Hi Im new at this but i am anxious to collaborate. I live in Caguas and if there is a way to help just let me know.

I searched within the Puerto Rico POI and i didn't find a movie theater category. Here almost all the movie theater are Caribbean Cinemas. I am starting a category named "Puerto Rico - Caribbean Cinemas".

I still don't know how to do it, but i am learning.

Gilbert
