Replace 1490T with 2460LMT: Pros/Cons?

I have reached the point of frustation saturation with the 1490T. I like the features but the model is a lemon. Anyone here familiar with both the 1490T and 2460LMT? It seems like they are very similar, but the 2460 has 8 gb of ram compared to the underwhelming 2 gb in the 1490.

I'd appreciate hearing from any users familiar with both models, before I take the plunge. Thanks.

On the same boat

I was on the same boat as you. Finally I bought a 2450 same unit without bluetooth.
Not a bad unit but the way routes are created, stinks!!! If you create a route in Mapsource or Basecamp, it basically makes one route to every way point in the originatl route. There is no way to continue a route if you are in the middle of it.
Do some research before buying. The feature is called Trip Planner and it plainly stinks.
I had to go back to my 1490 when creating routes.
If you never create a route outside the unit then I guess it is not a bad unit.

Thanks

Thanks. I don't do any route creation outside the unit, so that's a non-issue for me.

Trip Planner

I think Trip Planner will be an issue if you use multi-point routes, whether you create them outside the unit or on the nuvi itself. Trip Planner just doesn't work as smoothly as the legacy multi-point routing did on the older nuvi's. It seems that most users who relied on the original nuvi multi-point routing are not happy with the Trip Planner.

Curious what's wrong with

Curious what's wrong with the 1490? I haven't had any issues with mine, but I haven't had it very long...

I use Trip Planner

all the time. It works great for me once you get use to it.

Got a 2460LMT

I got a 2460LMT after getting frustrated by the lack-of-memory of my 1450LMT.

And I love the 2460LMT. My 1450LMT is now a "back-up" in one of my vehicles.

I'd vote you do it ... and don't look back

Garmin 205, 260W, 1450LMT, 2460LMT, HEREwego for iPhone ... all still mapping strong.

Like trading Lisbon Lemon to Meyer Lemon

If lack of storage is what you concern about, a $20 microSD will resolve the problem. If the user interface and/or software features are your concern, they are the same. The underlying OS and UI are exactly the same except few unit specific features.

Since both are made by Garmin, built quality should be about the same as well.

Why to go out to find other alternative brands or substitutable devices with GPS feature, i.e. smart phone or tablet.

The 1490T does not have lifetime maps. The 2460 LMT does, and enough ram to really use the full JCV file, not the hamstrung mini-version. Without the map updates, the microSD card isn't much use because the JCV and map files are not interchangeable between versions.

I do find myself going more often with just the iPhone 4 Maps, Tripster and Waze, especially on short trips. iPhone's Maps traffic is at least as good if not better than Garmin's.
