Embarrissing POI for daughter....

Since "giving" me a Nuvi 40LM for Christmas, my oldest daughter has laid claim to my trusty old Nuvi 750, which she usually keeps in her car. The other night I found it on the kitchen table. I figured that maybe it needed to be charged or that something was wrong with it. So, being the thoughtfull father that I am, I decided to "fix" it for her. grin

I created a nice little mp3 file to put on her GPS. It starts with the sound of a car at idle, followed by a couple of revs of the engine, and then a voice calling her name.... slight pause... and then "let's roll girl"... followed by the by a tire screeching take off that reminded my of my old days. twisted The whole thing lasts over 9 seconds! After putting the file on her (my) Nuvi, I wanted to make sure she would be able to hear and enjoy what her loving dad had done for her. So... anytime she is within 100 yards of a McDonalds.... laugh out loud off it goes!

Skip ahead 2 days.: She works the night shift (midnight to 8am). She and four of her friends go out for lunch... her turn to drive..... where do they go??? yep... Mickey D's... I get a phone call at 3:15am... DADDY!!! (with lots of laughter in the background)... Best Part: .. They were in line at McDonalds for over ten minutes... and nobody knew how to shut Jill up.... laugh out loud (which got me another call from her!) smile

Great prank

What a great prank to play on your daughter.

I've replaced various voice prompts (such as recalculating) on several unsuspecting friends' GPS's.

But never one with voice and sound effects. Will have to try that

Making your own

My wife and I enjoyed Dr. Nightmare on our old 200 as it would come out with one of about 60 sayings every 5 minutes or so. It helped break up the trip and offered a few laughs.

Taking a cue from this type of fun, on one trip I sprinkled in some sayings of my own. Some examples where when we crossed a state line the unit would announce that's one down, x more to go. When we got near the exit for a scheduled fuel stop the unit asked if we could take a break, she was getting thirsty. Crossing bridges offere another opportunity, the unit would pipe up saying "Don't look now, but it's a long way down!"

These are easy to do. Just find a point on your route, create a POI with an alert distance of around 50 feet and use the AT&T text to speech engine to create your saying. One of the permanent ones we left was hitting the off-ramp near home the unit pipes up with "Almost home again!" When our kids were small we used to tell them that when we were about 5 minutes out. They got to where they would recognize the landmarks and excitedly tell us "Almost home again!" It was a fun way to travel with the kids,

I See the Problem

McDonald's was busy to have a 10 minute line at 3:15 AM. Wondering if it's the only place open at that time of morning... mrgreen

And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .

I'd lie to do something like

I'd like to do something like that, that will set off alarm bells when my wife pulls into any shopping center.
