Garmin need focus on apps

I would buy a used iphone or android and they can do a lot better than Garmin TV.

Garmin should focus on apps and/or in-dash oem build system. Garmin maps are far better then current oem in-dash system but most people buy entry level or luxury car would have built-in NAV as standard. Then they dont need a another unit on their dash.

iPhone works great

I have an iPhone with an a/v cord. I put the movies on the iPhone and take them on vacation with me. Just plug the a/v cord into the TV and watch the movies on the TV like a DVD player. Works great for me, just wish I could find a way to put the TV shows recorded from Windows 7 Media Center on it. They are recorder in .wtv format and I haven't yet found a way to convert them yet. Have to do some more searching but the protected content cannot be used as of yet.

We can only hope...

The TV function is disabled when moving. People are already bad drivers, and blaming the GPS for driving on railroad tracks, down boat launches, etc... I can see the excuses now for running over a playground filled with school children, "The GPS was playing my favorite show and I didn't want to miss it!"

The manual in a older Garmin with TV states that when in motion more than a few kM it disables TV.

How about this one:

Funny

That's Nothing

In South Korea the GPS receivers have had TV for years and they don't stop when you're moving either. They also have Karaoke and of course, music players.

They also allow you to navigate by phone number instead of plugging in an address.

As for TV, Korea has far better accident stats than the US. Not sure about the UK. I don't want to see any more cockpit distractions than we have already but I'm inclined to chalk up crap driving to crap drivers. The distractions are just part of the problem.

wtv conversion

I have not tried it myself but Handbrake from http://handbrake.fr supposedly supports .wtv conversion.
