garmin 1300 ("CANNOT AUTHENTICATE MAPS")

i get a message when i downloaded my gps withn 2012.30 map the message i get is CANNOT AUTHENTICATE MAPS can anyone tell me how i can fix this problem??

You're missing one or both

You're missing one or both of the following files:

*An .UNL file, which has the license key for the maps.
*A .GMA file, which is a unique file generated when the map is unlocked.

These files are automatically transferred to the GPS when the map is transferred using Garmin's software. Assuming the 2012.30 is a typo, if these files didn't get transferred run the updater again. If however we are speaking of 2012.30, you got the maps from outside of Garmin and thus you're on your own. This site does not discuss pirating maps.

2012.30?

Obviosly you didn't download the map from Garmin since you stated you downloaded 2012.30, the map version is 2012.40 if you updated your map from the Garmin server. I need not say more.

I figured I would be nice to

I figured I would be nice to him and give him the benefit of the doubt, but his other post in another thread where he asks how to create an unlock file proves he didn't get the map from Garmin.

If you have lifetime maps for either of your two nuvis, forget 2012.30 and simply install the new 2012.40 map that is available now--and install it to both your nuvi and computer. To do this, at the start of the update, look for a button on the lower left called Install Options. Click it, then click "Install to device and computer." The default installation is to Device Only.

Know that if you have lifetime maps on one of your two nuvis, you can install the map to the device and a computer, but the map can not be installed to the other nuvi without purchasing lifetime maps for the 2nd nuvi.

If you have a legit map installation to your device or computer and are having the issues you describe, call Garmin's Customer Service and have them resolve it.

If it

If it's a legit copy of the maps and was only downloaded a month ago then the OP should simply be able to download 2013.30 again. It is available for redownload for one year after it's first downloaded for any particular device. This is true even if the OP doesn't have lifetime maps or if 2012.40 has been released since he updated to 2012.30.

To download 2012.30 again, just go to your myGarmin.com account and select myMaps. Find your Nuvi listed there and click on DETAILS. This will give you a screen listing all map versions that are available for download. Simply select 2012.30.
