"Honey, I shrunk my Nuvi 650 memory" (... or HELP !!!)

I have a Nuvi 650 that I bought new in 2008 and it's served me well since then. However, it was getting a bit 'long in the tooth' as far as recent information like roads, POI's, etc, so I thought I take a plunge and get a map-update rather than buy a new unit (though they are sooo tempting, but $$$ is tight).

Anyways, I got the new 2012.40 map ready to go, and decided to update and clean up some old Favorites and POI's while I was at it. I first made an image of everything in the 650 (it showed it had about 2G total space).

The 2012 map install went well, but somehow I messed up doing the Favorites/POI thing because I got everything twice, so I deleted everything and started over.

This is where it gets weird... It now says I only have about 1.4G total memory, and the new 2012 map wouldn't fit. I've tried everything I can think of to expand it and get my memory-size back, but no luck. Even to trying a 'copy-paste' from my original saved file, and by going to the PC's Computer Management and trying it there. Still the same... 1.4G total. BTW, I also can't do the "Restore" function now too, it asks if I want to but then ignores me when I say 'yes'.

So, where did my extra space go and how can I get it back???

TIA

.

Check if the Nuvi has a recycle bin. Might need to be emptied.

It happened to me too but I have newer model and don't have

any photos and it said I don't have enough space. I then check the folder and found a folder name I believed it named "Archive". I then deleted them and redo the map update and it went fine. I don't know if that is your case but you could try. Also, you can go in and delete all the voice except the one you use that can give you more space. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. Recycle bin was/is empty, and I don't see anything called Archive. I did delete all extra voices and additional Help files, so I can at least get back to where I was initially. But it's still a bummer that something changed drastically.

Any more suggestions or ideas???

RE: Thanks for the suggestions

You didn't use My Dashboard by any chance did you? Never, NEVER use this as a "quick and dirty" to check if your unit is up to date. It can reload everything you deleted.
