Nuvi 1300 - Quality Problems?

Hi,
I bought a Garmin Nuvi 1300 in July, it worked fine for about 2 months, and then stopped working, it could not find satelites. I followed all of Garmins instructions on doing a hard boot of the device, install the latest software, ect., but nothing worked.
I sent it back, to Garmin and they sent me another one, and it worked fine for 3 months and then the same thing happened. So I sent that one back, and they sent me another one.

Has this happened to anyone else who has the Nuvi 1300, or have I just been unlucky?

Garmin Quality

Just Garmin Quality. If a unit works from the start you are lucky, then they will screw it up with a firmware update.

You've been unlucky. No

You've been unlucky. No problems here with mine, except for firmware 5.70 causing random shutdowns and reboots. 5.80 was released this morning to fix that problem.

Don't know about the 1300

Don't know about the 1300 but I have had my 1690 for over 2 years now with no problems.

Restart Message?

In referring to the reason for the update: I never got a restart message, only the 1490 failed to start. Looking at shutdown causes it said RTL Trap.

I had hoped for the display of the next street up on the green bar. They didn't see the need to add it with this update and probably never will. That is the only feature I missed when I got rid of the Emap ten years ago.

Nuvi 1300WTGPS Working Great..!!

I've had my Nuvi 1300WTGPS for a couple of years now.. and haven't had problem one with it. grin

Maybe it's only the newer production models that do. confused

1300LM

Mine is fine and on its 3d update. I did notice they killed the rest of the North American map. Only the lower 50 states get updated and I no longer see Canada or Mexico. I don't like that they took those out as they came with the unit (I'm OK with Garmin not updating them if the updates are only for USA)and should have remained.

Another thing is that the unit is a little slower. less responsive than it used to be. They did fix the icons for favorites not displaying correctly and the sound breaking up.

And my paranoid note: I noticed that they must be hiding files since some of us delete (after backup of course) favorites and the log before updating software. My favorites "cameback" when the unit recreated the favorites folder (???)

Recreated Faves

Thanos, if you had the temp.gpi file on the unit, it will not be deleted. I found this out on a few occasions by experimenting.

Thanks!

Good to know. One more file to delete before running the update.

Weird that I found more cops in my route today than usual. Funny that I updated over a week ago and my route is usually deserted and you rarely see a cop (coincidence?) I don't want to give Garmin files to sell to the cops in my area.

.

I've found this to be a boon after a hard reset, when I forget to back up my Faves.

As usual, YMMV.

RTL Trap

@jjen: "Restart message" is their euphemism for the RTL Trap error. As to the cross streets, I don't miss it as much as I thought. The map itself displays the street names.

Depends on Zoom Level

Only at certain zoom levels is it visible enough and even then some names are out of view.

When not navigating I always

When not navigating I always have the zoom set to 50ft. thus my statement holds true for me. Your preferences are obviously different.
