Garmin nuvi 2455LMT - icons

Right click your BMPs and then click Properties. Check all of your bmp files and make sure they are 8 bit BMP files. Some of the older Garmins would use higher (24 bit) resolution BMPs but the newer units seem to only like 8 bit (or 256 color).

If they are the higher resolution just load them into MS Paint and select "Save As" and change the BMP resolution from the file type drop down box and Save the file.

Zoom in - they may really be there. Custom POI icons are limited to 24 x 24 pixels. Newer nuvis with hi-res screens display that size icon very small. There is no work-around for this.

They are 8 bit.

And there doesn't seem to be a way to zoom in with this unit like you could with the 255w...the built-in icons are showing as it is anyways.

Edit: I take it back, I did find a zoom (it isn't always on the screen), yay. But the icons still don't show. Glad I found zoom anyways. You can zoom in crazy close with this unit.

I just checked your manual and it does indeed seem strange that the normal zoom in and out are missing. But what I skimmed was all 3D map mode.

Can you try a 2D mode and see if the + - buttons show up?

I never did like 3D.

Full color icons should display on the 2455. Do as Bear says and open the icon file with Paint. Count the pixels (24 or less) and save as (again) 8 bit 256 colors. Just don't open it, save it again.

Go back to basics and check that the filename of the icon exactly matches (case matters) the filename of the POI file. (except for the filename extension) Also check for double filename extensions on the icon file. Set your settings in Windows to view filename extensions so double extensions can't happen.

I rechecked all the icons, some were 8 but some were 24, so I fixed those. The names already match and this was working on the 255w. Like I said in my edit I found how to zoom. Now, I say the icons aren't showing but that is while sitting here on the couch doing a find route - which DOES show icons with the preloaded ones, whch is why I think the custom ones are not working. But I need to go out now so let's see if maybe they show while I'm actually driving...I dunno. I'll report back later or tomorrow. Thanks again.

Open any Window

Top dropdown menu - click Tools

click Folder Options

click View

uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

click Apply

click OK

Did you load to the nuvi or to an SD card? There is a problem with the latest POI Loader v2.70(?) When it loads to the nuvi it works but when it loads to a card it doesn't work.

In the nuvi look at Where To?/ Extras/ Custom POIs. (Your menu might be different) In there you should see a list of POIs if they really loaded.

Ok you guys, the icons DO work, when I am driving around. But not in the little preview map when you're setting a route, though the preloaded blue/white icons work in the preview map.

So, yeah. Sorry everyone, its fine. Thanks everyone who helped. There's just so many things about this unit that I don't like compared to the 255w that I'm surprised this one thing actually works, lol.

If you select any custom POI and instead of selecting GO is there a choice to MAP? If so select it and it will show the location of the selected POI. then you can zoom in to the 200 feet range and it should show if it is there.

They will not show while driving down the road if you are not zoomed in to the 200 feet range.

EDIT - Just fixing my subject spelling

and finding it diffrent from the rest. Tell me, When you plug it in you pc (if you do) does it give you a drive mapping or just a icon saying nuvi2455? I am finding that it is finding it as a device and not a drive letter.

You are right about new things. I just bought a car I thought I would like. It has 32 computers. Everything is so complicated! But every new car today is like that!

Bear, this is what I referred to as a "preview map" or something like that in my previous posts, and last night they did not show which was why I started this thread. Then when I got on the road they were there. However they ARE showing in the preview today. Go figure. Also you don't have to be zoomed in on this unit to see map icons like you did on the 255w, they will still show at the default level.

Bob, yes my unit does not show up like my old one did when plugged into the computer. I can't even "eject" it, I have to just unplug it. No idea if that's healthy. :/

I know how to add my custom poi's but Garmin's new upgraded gps has alot of new icons a nice feature and are bigger than my custom icons is there a way to open this file's or to make my own poi there same size? I really want a walmart icon so I dont have to squint my eyes for crying out loud even Meyer has one.
