Garmin 1450, 1490 (think hardware might be the same?)

I just bought a 1450lmt, I also noticed the 1490 model with bluetooth. I've always wondered if Garmin really does make that many different motherboards for all the models. Bluetooth is the only difference between these models, Does anyone think that the hardware really is there and it's locked out by software or firmware alone?

One way to find out.

If I had both I would crack

If I had both I would crack them apart and have a look.

brave man

True, no sense of opening one without having the other to compare, my Nuvi 260 wasn't hard to open when I changed the battery.

.

Many hardware builds are the same, but features are activated by FW. Chances are, the BT chip is on the board. Of course, getting a modified FW to get it to work is a whole new ballgame.

TurboCCC's RGN SW has done some amazing things for the 765 moving it to SG/Mal FW. wink

There is a modified firmware

There is a modified firmware for the 1xxx nüvis that I used to give my 1300LM the speed limit indicator, lane assist and Junction View. It may turn on bluetooth but I can't confirm that. However I'm not aware of any that have used the firmware on the higher end 1xxx units because the features I added already are present on the 1450.
