POI files

I just purchased a Nuvi 50LM and did a update from Garmin.

The custom poi files I added using the Garmin loader under XP do not show up in my 'where too' 'extra' custom pois. What I have read here is that this is where any added files can be found. I have done this several times but can't find any custom pois. Any one know where they are?
Thanks

What version of the POI loader did you use?

The new version creates .poi files which won't work (I believe). Someone stated changing the extension to the correct .gpi is all you need to do.

If you are using vesion 2.7.0 and saving to a SD card the extension becomes .poi. It needs to be renamed to .gpi. It seems to write it correctly when saving to internal memory.

Nuvi 2460LMT.

Use explorer in XP

and look to see what the extension to the file is that poi loader created.

What Camerabob was stating is that the current version of POILoader has a bug in that when the output file is written to an SD card the incorrect file extension is written.

As pwhorlab suggests, use Windows Explorer to look for the file on the target device. It should be in a folder \Garmin\poi with the file name the same as the input folder name and an extension of either .poi or .gpi. If you see a .poi file extension on your target device, change that extension to .gpi and it will work. Also note, some units will not see the newly written files until you cycle the power (reboot).

surprising Garmin has not fixed this yet

I read about the problem and continued using the older version of POI loader.

I find it surprising Garmin has not fixed the problem yet, as it sounds like an easy thing to fix.
