Rochester, NY Redlight Cameras

Just an FYI ...
I'm traveling this week in Rochester just hanging at the pub right now with the techs installing new redlight cameras in Rochester. They will be installing 7 more before the end of the year. They told me I have to go to Rochester's web site for the locations.

PS - beer is cold and expecting snow tomorrow.

@bear007

Thanks bear.

pwohlrab has been helping me stay on top of the Rochester installs. We added another two just last week.

There is no advance notice

There is no advance notice on them. It is a very little bleep in the paper and mentioned on the radio station. I have to keep searching the paper.

Rochester, NY Redlight Cameras

New camera install - Lake Ave. & Driving Park

Just went past an intersection near my apartment and noticed a new red light cam going up. BTW, how do you define the coordinates for the Redlight Camera. Is it the middle of the intersection? Thanks!

Is it active yet?

Bear007 had info that we get an additional 7 by the end of the year. JM already has the 1st 20. Place the marker in the middle of the intersection. Right click on the marker and choose "whats this". The coordinates will show up above.

Not listed Yet

It is not posted on Rochester's website yet. So far just the 20 but I did hear the techs talking that once they are installed they have some testing and inspections they have to pass before they can go active. They didn't sound real positive about being able to meet the 7 more by the end of the year.

KMZ file available also

As new cameras come online, they are being added within the day to a publicly-maintained .kmz at http://tinyurl.com/roc-scameras

POI-factory is welcome to use this data.

The long-term goal is for Rochester to have 50 cameras.

I reported this to JM on 1-18-2012 but it was in the evening so it should be there this week (today).

Thanks, and keep reporting. It's okay if multiple people report locations. This is one of the reasons the POI Factory file is so accurate.

OMG

This is the most incredible statement I've ever seen from an elected official. Must be fishing for votes.

"I'm very concerned that too many of these tickets have been issued to those who simply can't afford them, which is counter-productive to our efforts to reverse our city's troubling rates of poverty."

So much for safety, law-and-order, etc. What's next, let's not ticket the poor for speeding, or drug sales, or ???

Yea. That caught my eye.

I was really surprised she made that statement!

See it all the time by city politicians who always want someone else to pay for something. If they actually follow through on it, you can bet there will be an eventual rise in the numbers of lower income people who will simply ignore the traffic laws, and subsequently the cameras that catch them breaking said laws, knowing they won't have to pay the ticket.
