I got tagged ...

I was leaving my office in Dallas late one night two months ago, and there's an intersection not far from there where they had just installed "test" cameras. It was like 9:30 at night, no traffic at all, pulled up to the stop light in the left turn lane, light turned green, so I proceeded through, and noticed half way through the intersection a photo flash. Well, talk about getting your dander up!

Literally, pushed the gas, went about 50 feet and saw the flash, all the time the light was green.

So I did a u turn and went back, pulled over and got out my camera. Took pictures of the intersection, the rental car I was driving, my watch held up in front of the camera to show another time check. Then waited, and sure enough, here comes a car to the same intersection. He pulls out, and flash! All captured on my digital camera.

So I got on the POHlice web site, sent an email to their public relations officer and attached all the photos and stipulated that copies would be filed with my attorney and the states attorney general, with copies emailed to the head of Dallas' DPS office.

So far not a single response. I'm pretty sure they wish they'd never installed them now...har har...

Florida

I am soooo glad that Florida has removed ALL cameras.
Just for these reasons.
I'm sure there were other reason as well

TRACY

haha that is funny

This is the coolest and yet funniest thing ever...way to stick it to "the man". I hate when the government (or people in general) try to go high-tech and they don't even know what they are doing. They pretend to fit in with the other "nerds". I know this comment makes me a nerd and i really am a high-tech nerd but there is nothing wrong with that......right guys?

Nerd is okay, but Geek,

Nerd is okay, but Geek, that's just plain cool! Now Dork, on the otherhand, is definitely not cool...

Robin, I too live in the Dallas area. Can you share the intersection so I know to park my car and walk through it if I'm ever in that part of town smile

I read an article in last

I read an article in last Sundays Dallas rag, that someone in Austin is sponsoring a bill to remove all Red Light Cameras in Texas. I doubt it will happen, but he's going to try.

Very Smart of You

What you did was very smart in case they decided to act on the photo taken. Who knows when the testing phase of the cams is over. They could be sending you the bill, you never know. Here in Charlotte They would just send you a 50 dollar fine with no points on your insurance or license. Although no points are added it's still not the correct way to enforce red light running. This just promotes my idea that most of our traffic laws are set up as a cash box and not for our safety. Of course all these Radar Speed Traps are for our safety, right? I highly doubt that's why they have unmanned Speed / Photo camera's.

Anyways, if anyone needs to know anything about speed enforcement such as devices they use, Radar detectors, Laser Jammers, ect.... feel free to ask. I am very Knowledgeable on this topic and would be glad to help
anyone out.

PS: The " Rocky Mountain Radar " Units are under
powered and will not Jam Radar or Laser. If anyone
has one, you should just put a brick on your dash
it works better. Under tests they sometimes Jammed
radar at 3 feet but that is far from a real world
situation.

Don't want to get to far off topic but just offering
to help if anyone is interested on this topic.

I have a new Passport 8500 X50 and noticed is alerts Laser close to red light cameras, is that what it is sensing?
Thanks,

Canadian Cameras

Up here in Canada they are just getting started with the Red Light/Speed Cameras. The worst problem for me so far is the lack of posted speed limits in the vicinity of the cameras.

Hmmm, seems a bit paranoid, if you ask me.

Well, just my opinion, that is all. Anyway, I ride a bike in Dallas and am glad for the cameras. People are just too used to running them. I wish the fine was higher. The more they catch the safer it will be as people learn.

I agree with you there. I

I agree with you there. I don't have a lot of interest in red light camera's myself and am not loading memory with lots of POIs for those as I don't plan on running red lights. Speed cams, that would interest me more, but having grown up in Dallas, to me, it's one place that I wouldn't expect red light running to be a huge issue, except of course during Texas/OU weekend...

Knoxville

They are kind of like an Infection, or rash You get rid of them in that spot and they just crop up in another. Here in Knoxville Tn. The Local Official seem to be wanting more and more of them and brag about the revenue they are already bringing in.

Going to court in IA

Bikes and Red Lights

Not to pick on you, but in Toronto, bikes are the worst for running redlights and stop signs. You don't have to carry ID, have insurance or anything so people just don't care.

I ride a bike and drive and it is scary to ride. But it is a two-sided problem.

It's a trap!

I recently heard on the news here in TN that many cities are refunding tickets because the yellow light's duration had been reduced below the federally mandated 3 seconds. I agree with many of you in that "The Man" is in it for the dollar, not the people.

thats not right

It is always about the

It is always about the dollar.

Whereabouts do you live

Whereabouts do you live jburr?

Here in Winnipeg, the city for quite some time now has been aggressive in its speed/red light cash cow implementation. There are fewer cameras than installations, so they rotate the cameras.

They are also aggressive in mobile radar as well, using unmarked vehicles. They're supposed to be located within a certain distance from schools, recreation areas and I think construction zones. I have to admit though, I agree with their use around schools and rec areas. There are too many drivers whipping through these areas. Just the other day some idiot, while passing me in a school zone, dissed me out for driving 40kmh, all the while his attention is on me and he's already way above the speed limit.

Yesterday, I asked the city if they could provide me with details of their school safety zones and pedestrian crosswalks so that I can geo-sync them for distribution. Here's hoping.

I hope you ride you bike on the sidewalk ticket those that don't

Thats because you ride a bike, When you start driving a car regularly, you will think differently. You see I don't run Lights either but do-do 0ocurs (bad timed caution cycle etc.), when it does I don't want to get nailed for a couple hundred bucks. I hope you ride that bike on the sidewalk and not in the street, because people that do are very dangerous to traffic in general and should be ticketed, for a couple hundred bucks. Nothing more annoying than to have to swerve because someone failed to be out of harms way on a bike.

However I'm sure you abide by the rules of the road and ride your bike safely.
