How often do you use your gps????????

I have a kenwood dnx5120 with garmin. I've done the upgrades to 2011 maps, added a bunch of poi's (thanks to this forum) - but I find that I rarely use my gps.

How often do you use your gps units?

As often as I possibly can.

As often as I possibly can. GPS receivers blend two of my childhood hobbies: maps and gadgets.

Everyday

If I'm in the vehicle, it's on. And, a good way to check new maps.

maps were mine also, have quite a collection of paper maps, used to have some that were published by the gas stations way back in the stone age. helps with another hobby amateur radio county hunting.

For me, it was National

For me, it was National Geographic maps. Unfortunately, I had to leave them behind when I and the ex went splitsville.

These days, I have little in the way of maps. Other than a twelve year-old US road atlas, two folded paper maps (Canada, Atlantic Canada) of the same vintage as the road atlas, some standard atlases, and the "Atlas of World History" by Rand-McNally, I generally use Google Earth to get my fix when it comes to exploring strange new worlds (on Earth).

I don't think paper maps will go away for a long, long time. Even though technology can do a lot, there's something to be said about the feel of paper in the hand.

picked a new trick with paper maps, my daughter and I were making yearly trips to Vancouver, ca so I started buying atlas to backup the gps, I usually bought atlas for each of the state I would go through and then when I go to Vancouver i would buy the street maps for Vancouver and the Fraser valley

I did much the same thing

I did much the same thing traveling to South Carolina one year. At every welcome center to every state I stopped and grabbed one of their road maps and stowed it. Not quite the same, but it was also free.

Now you can't even do that, not with rest areas closing all over the country. sad

Almost daily

I travel quite a bit for work, mainly in the VA - NY area of the country. I have found it to be quite helpful!

With my custom "Hot" quick mount (one second to mount and it begins powering up), I have it on all the time. Traffic's a b_tch in Los Angeles...and the RLC POI helps out as well..

All the time

Same here!

I don't leave home without it.

I like to keep track of where I go. If I take a picture, I will be able to geotag it if I desire.
I also like maps. I have road maps of about 45 states. Just last month we were bumming around western Tennessee just sight-seeing. I discovered a place called,

Minnie Pearl of Grand Ole Opry said she lived there. I had no idea it was a real place until I saw it on my TN map.

Almost always

If I'm going anywhere other than a local errand around town, it's on.

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

Just about every day.

Just about every day.

Virtually always

Except short trips to known places I'm using GPS always when I'm driving. Even when I'm driving to places I know the road to. I usually don't engage routing (unless I want arrival time to show) but I'm leaving GPS in map mode. Why bother even when I'm not looking at map? It's simple: speed/red light cameras warning, other warnings and traffic info. And in case when all the sudden I need to get to some place then I can just type destination and drive immediately.

Regularly

I use my Garmin almost every day - both for work and for fun.

We do a lot of travelling in rural areas of central Alberta and I have convinced several of my colleagues to purchase GPS units. My nuvi is much better at finding the paved roads from Point A to Point B than County maps (thank you, Avoidances smile ).

As for personal use, we use it every time we travel to Calgary, Edmonton or where ever for shopping. And then there are our vacation travels... after downloading a few files from the POI Factory, I'm ready for the road cool !

Once or twice a week

I use my 855 or my 2820 along with my hand held for geocaching once or twice a week.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

On most trips

I will use my gps even when I already know where I'm going, just so I have an idea of my arrival time to my destination. My kids always ask me "Do you have to take that thing with us everywhere we go?"

Every

Day...

Fewer than when I initially purchased it

I used to use it every day but for me the novelty has worn off a bit. My daily commute is routine and it isn't needed. Traffic reports on it aren't very accurate. I do use it on weekend and other trips outside of my normal daily commute.

If I am in the car it's on >>>

I actually use it, meaning to find a destination, maybe 3-4 times per week.

--

Use it every day

I like to see the eta to the location I am going to, plus, the "traffic" warnings give me a chuckle.

I use it for work six days a week. When I'm off work it still gets used using map view. Like a bad habit its hard to put away lol.

2) On long trips to anywhere

3) When I get bored of my Ipod !!!!!!!

RKF (Brookeville, MD) Garmin Nuvi 660, 360 & Street Pilot

Always on

I have two vehicles and two GPSs. I will have a backup sometime this week when a 765t arrives (they have gotten pretty cheap). Each vehicle has a semi-permanent mount. I park the vehicles in the garage at night so I rarely remove the GPS. When I get in and start the vehicle it is on. I don't navigate with it more than once or twice a week but I nearly always have it on.

I get phone calls through them and listen to music from them. So I use them even when I am not navigating.

Jim

I can't say "every time", but....

One interesting "feature", or undocumented usage, that I have with my GPS, is to give me an aerial view of the road. On quite a few occasions, I therefore learned that there was a sharp curve hidden by a few trees - and therefore easily and safely avoided testing the off-road capabilities of my SUV...

Not Much

Barely enough to keep the battery charged. Not traveling as much as I used to. But it's always ready for me in the glove compartment.

Need I say more?

Use of GPS

I use it on all long trips which is about 4 times a year. I use it on short trips only when I am unclear as to exactly where I am going.

Lots

Lots:

1) Travel around town - no need for maps. An address or coordinates and I can find it.
2) Getting from one activity to another cross town
3) I use it while traveling and running into construction and detours. Not afraid to turn off and look for another route with it.
4) Loaded POIs of the restaurants we like to eat at while traveling. Have grouped them so when we're out of town I can search only on these restaurants and find out what's close.
5) Geocaching
6) Where's the nearest QT or Circle K, good prices for drinks when I need to buy one for every family member.

Near 100%

Almost always. During school season, it's on to remind of school zones. And in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where it appears much of their revenue is from traffic cameras, very nervous without it.

mostly if I am going out of

mostly if I am going out of town. The town I live in is small so outside of maybe using the poi database for phone numbers its not really needed for navigation. I do like using it however to check the maps and if going out of town and I know where I'm going I like the traffic feature as well as the speed limit indicator.

Use my nuvi 760 almost every time I'm in the car

I used it to have an accurate estimate of arrival time, check traffic on my daily commute and to play music through the car speakers.

ALWAYS

if not for directions, i tap the speed and the large indicator keeps me aware of how fast i am travelling in local traffic and for red-light camera areas.

Garage sale

Wife had a garage sale the other day. One of her customers asked how to get to another location in our town for "of course" another garage sale. Didn't have a map handy but fired up the GPS, put in the address and had directions in the time it took to turn it.

Originality I'd use it anytime I'm going somewhere I'm not familiar with....

However, lately, with the $$$ of Gas, I've been using it to find fastest way from Point A to B, to save $$ on Gas.

Obviously I take it on vacations... The POI's I've installed from here make it an absolute necessity!!!!

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

Daily

Between cars, boats, and trails, I use my GPS everyday. When just driving around town I don't usually turn it on unless I'm on a route. For me, I don't like to rely on it too much driving locally because I feel like it's too easy to not just orient myself to my location without the GPS. It's kind of the same reason I don't use the speed dial function on my phones--I get too dependent on it and then I forget people's actual phone number, lol.....

Almost Everyday

My GPS is an invaluable tool that is frequently used.

Constantly on

When Driving GPS is constantly as it also doubles as my hands free. Incidentlky I'm currently on a 32,000KM trip around NA and so far the GPS has operated cfaultlessly often times suggesting better routes than my original map planning; HOWEVER, I still cross reference to the maps to ensure I'm not going somewhere stupid or down a road the doesn't "feel right"!

IT got me in and out of Indianapolis for the 500 with no problems (just traffic volume) Police routed me out to an unfamiliar part of the city by the GPS got me back on track within minutes!

once a year?!

Shame... I have not used my Garmin 765t since I got it about a year and half ago...I have been used iphone instead.

We had a plan to drive a day trip last Saturday and realized I have Garmin 765t. Updated latest map data and it works perfect. Way better then iphone.

I should take care of my Garmin.

Always.

Although I know where all the cameras are in Cedar Rapids, I always have my nuvi 855 on to give me a reminder when I approach one.

Every day, since I just

Every day, since I just leave it in the car mounted.

With myTrends it does 99% of the button-pushing work for me, and the traffic reports are always appreciated -- the nuvi has alerted me to a couple jams that I didn't know about. The volume is off, unless I'm taking a unfamiliar trip, which is about once a week.

For short errands, I just let it run without a route in map mode.

Atleast...

I'd have to say at a bare minumum of 3 times a day. I don't know what I'd do without it.

All the time

I always have my Smart Phone with me. So I have a gps whenever I need it.

The answer is often.

I use it almost every day. I drive long distances - anywhere from 200-900 in a day (no I am not a truck driver). I rarely use it on the weekends since I am home and tired of driving.

How often do you use your gps????

Every Day! I drive truck in the continental 48 & find it invaluable. I use my garmin for planning stops, detours & routes. Best money I ever spent.

Everyday

I use it mainly for the Traffic feature.

I-64 here is a real pain. Log jams are common. Last week there was a double fatality where 1 tow truck struck another, killing both drivers (they happened to know each other, but different companies) and tying I-64 up for 6 hours. I had already gotten to work when it happened, but my Garmin has saved me many, many hours by letting me know when to detour.
