No email here either

I didn't get the update email either ... but I did last time ... you gotta wonder how that would happen.

Oh well, that's why I spend so much time here ... to get the up-to-date ... up-to-minute alerts about software and map updates.

Added information to 2012.1

I remember reading above that some were speculating on the size of added POI's and Lane Assist functions. Now I'm not the one to complain but when I type in Walmart and I get 3 and sometimes 4 Walmarts with the same address, I have to scratch my head and wonder if this is why the file is growing so large. It just seems like to me, that if you add four Walmarts where there is only one then it is increasing the size 300%. Am I wrong? This has been reported numerous times but I was told that it was the overlay. I say, don't put the overlay down then. What do you think?

I love the Garmin time machine.

I figure that this is good until the beginning of 2012.

Junction View comes to Albuquerque

I believe that up until this release there was no intersection with Junction View in Albuquerque, and Lane Assist until recently has been spotty even on major Interstate intersections.

So I was pleased this morning to see photo-realistic JV not only at the "Big I" intersection of I-25 and I-40, but also for exits to Montgomery and San Antonio from Northbound I-40. San Antonio is pretty minor, so this may mean that most Interstate exits are covered here in this release.

As to "photo-realistic", I'm thinking these are in that category because they all had non-relevant local detail and horizon pixels. For example, the Montgomery exit view was backed by a credible profile of Sandia Mountain, while the San Antonio exit view included a couple of street lights.

I got the impression on some non-Interstate street driving that Lane Assist may have spread a bit from the previous sparse coverage, as well.

Confused

I had a 1450LMT and could not update to the full 2012.10 because it does not have enough space. I settled for Canada and border states. The JCV file was 358MB.

I returned it and ordered a 2460LMT instead, because it has 8GB of internal storage. After updating it to 2012.10, the JCV file is only 243MB?

Go figure.

No problem with install

Worked fine for my 755t

Not Enough Space

Tried to update maps on my 1450LMT with no luck. Will try to pare down files but don't think I'll have much luck. I'm a little disappointed as I have only had the unit for 3 months.

Got it

I just got the email that it was out.

The file size is smaller on the 2460 as I believe it supports 'split screen views' where you get the JV and the map screen at the same time. IMO, having the JV take up only half the screen, instead of all of it, requires a smaller picture which results in less space required for it. Your 1450 doesn't use these smaller pictures.

1450LMT Update

Deleted all extraneous language help, text, keyboard, etc. Update loaded OK. Now have a mere 16.9 MB of free space.

Downloaded just fine

onto a 760 that has all non-english language voices and text files removed.

Thanks for the notification.

2012.1 size on 765T

I noted the before and after amount available when I d/l installed this update. Before was 2.5GB. after was 2.2GB. I installed directly to my Garmin. The new JCV file is 368MB.

Junction View

That makes a lot of sense. I just simulated a route with know junction views and they are indeed split screens.

Thanks for the explanation!

2012.1

I haven't done the D/L yet.

I keep reading about problems with the JV so I may wait unitl 2012.10A comes out.

Good update to my 760; no email from Garmin

email

I installed the new map on May 18th. I ended up downloading it twice because I did the GPS install on my laptop at work and wanted to get the map files for my home computer to use with Mapsource.

After 2 downloads one would think Garmin would know I got the maps but I just got email from them TODAY - June 7 - that the map update is available. When I checked online it says there are new maps available for my 760.

I don't have the 760 here at work so it won't really let me check but it must be the same update I already downloaded twice. Amazing.......

email yesterday

I got the email...a first for me, yesterday.

I may give this download a try on my 780.

I skipped the last update.

People who just bought their gps....

I suggest return it while you can if it only have 2GB of memory. These maps upgrade will only gets bigger, some 1490T owners can't update to 2012 maps even after deleting almost every unnecessary files. The map itself is 1.37 GB, plus the junction view file for GPS that support it is about 368 MB.

Or alternatively, you could just buy a memory card instead smile

Garmin nuvi 2350LMT JVC file size

Go figure.

I just received/updated my Garmin nuvi 2350LMT and I have 2 JVC files, one marked 12-12-2010 at 105 MB and now the new JVC at 99 MB, I have no 358 MB JCV file that other Garmin GPS's have.

Multiple installs - different JVC files

Used MyGarmin for all installs, options were set to install on GPS and PC for all updates-

On my first update to my zumo 660 I had the full jcv file at 358MB.

I followed it by doing 2 765Ts which both had the full jcv files.

Followed by a 255 which doesn't support jcv so no file.

I since exchanged my zumo 660 and when I received the new one it had 2011.1 maps with a small 47MB jcv file. When I updated it to 2012.1 I only had a 45MB jcv file. I had to rename the old one and copy my old 358MB file into the folder.

Its definitely not a mem problem with 4GB and plenty to spare. I can't figure the map update process out. It makes no sense what-so-ever!

which directory

bear,

What directory on the garmin nuvi is the JCV file stored in?

jcv

HowardZ wrote:

It may vary from nuvi to nuvi, but on my 855, it's in the /garmin/jcv directory.

Note that they'll only be present (both the directory and the file) on nuvi models that offer Junction View: my 855 has them while my 295W and 750 do not. There won't be any jcv on your nuvi 750.

JVC's in Calgary

Juggernaut wrote:

Also, Calgary now has JVC's I noticed.

Nice!

Have you noticed an area that has a high concentration of JVC's? I haven't run into a single one yet.

Junction View File

So, it turns out that those of you who downloaded 2012.10 a week after the release date did not get the full junction view file (which was originally around 358 MB) because garmin removed all of the junction views due to the amount of calls and complaints they were getting about certain units not having enough internal memory. I found this out due to the fact that I just exchanged my unit a week ago and noticed that when I re-downloaded 2012.10 to the replacement unit that all of the new junction views that were put in were no longer there and that the new junction view file was only about 46 MB. I then called garmin customer support and they told me that due to amount of problems the large junction view file was causing, they decided to remove most of the views, and hopefully replace them in a future map update. So for those of who still have the original 2012.10 map update with the new photoreal junction views, I would recommend you not update your maps for a while unless the junction views don't matter to you. Classic Garmin.

Or...

Just back it up and then replace it after an update if needed.

Strange Routing with 2012.1

I installed the 2012.1 maps on my 1490. All of North America installed without any problems. My JCV file is only 45 MB. I'll need to see which other JVC files are on the DVD. Hopefully there is a bigger one.

Every nuvi model provides slightly different rounting. I can't figure out the logic. It doesn't always pick the fastest route and avoidances aren't the issue.

Example: My commute to work. Shortest route is also the fastest. Pretty much one road door to door.
2011 Map 12 mi 17 min
2012.1 Map 15 mi 26 min
So, it is not choosing the shortest or fastest route.
2012.1 goes through all kinds of contortions to reroute me off the most direct route. Can't for the life of me figure out why.
