missing the toll road that opened here in January. Hopefully it gets fixed in the next round.

I simply use the Fastest route. Always have. Why it would run me up 23 through the national forest for an hour is beyond me.

I really will need to start checking my routes beforehand.

Also did the same thing going from Macon,Ga to Cleveland,TN.

Normally it would simply route me all the way on 75 around Chattanooga. Now it has me get off at Dalton, GA and take some highways to Cleveland,TN.

I really am not liking this map update.

Wish I Could But...

Could you please check the date and size of your Junction View file.

I'm not sure this method would update the Junction View file.

...I can't help you on that. Stock 1300LM nuvis don't have junction view. I have turned junction view on by modifying the firmware, but it's still a 1300LM and thus updating the maps through Garmin doesn't give me the junction view file.

I do know however that the Junction View file is 358MB in size, with the exact measurements below. It's also confirmed that the junction views are photorealistic, explaining the massive expansion in the size of the file.

Size:358 MB (376,381,191 bytes)
Size on disk: 358 MB (376,381,440 bytes)

Maybe it’s just me….but

Maybe it’s just me….but I don’t understand how a company as experienced as Garmin can make GPS units without enough memory to handle their map updates. I should not have to use the memory card just to get and use what I already paid for. And for those with the same problem, you can get the full north American update by having it install the full update to your computer and then install to your GPS using the mapinstall program in your Garmin directory..

This type of routing has been going on for several updates. Plot a route from the Baseball Hall of Fame to Wilkes-Barre PA. In Binghampton, it will have you get off I-88 at Exit #1, drive on Rt. 7 to I-81 Exit 4 rather than stay on the Interstate until they merge. Using Rt. #7 is shorter, about 0.6 miles, but Rt 7 has stop lights and is a lower speed limit. (I know because I followed it a couple years ago rather than checking the map before hand.)

I was on I70 heading East from Breezewood PA into Maryland, and for some reason the GPS wants me to take this exit to some back-road route. I always ignore it as it can't possibly be faster than the Interstate. Curious to know where it tries to take me, but never looked into it. By staying on the Interstate, it then recalculates and gives me a route that is FASTER than what it initially said. Weird.

This is the only place I've seen this happen.

A New feature?

Just playing with the new maps, and checking routing, I put in a long trip to my friends place in Winnipeg. As I zoomed out, I noticed with a long press, the map kept zooming until released. I haven't noticed that before.

Also, Calgary now has JVC's I noticed.

2012.1

As usual, I'm going to wait until you guys find out what the problems are with this release.

1012.1 seems OK

Downloaded 1012.1 to unit (1490) at motel last night on Long Island, NY. Took the ferry over to CT. this morning - drove up to NH today. Everything seemed to be working fine - junction view was working too.

1350 miles done on our 5000+ mile trip.

Nice touch.

Tooooooooo big

Mines only 237 MB. I have North America DEM and Topo Maps which you do not have. You have Europe Maps, don't know if those are 3d also which I do not have. So that's adding 120 MB to your file for euro maps. Not a lot.

I do so...

I also have the EU .jvc, but it's 96 megs or so. And, I do have 3D for the Euro maps as well.

I just think that Garmin likes me better! mrgreen

Like you better? I have Topo maps and I only have one *.jcv file. No modification date on the smaller one either. Doesn't look like there's a purpose for that one. Copy and delete the two top ones. You'll know real quick if they are needed.

Bud, there are 2 .sum files in the folder as well. That's what those are. As I've stated, I have the Euro .jvc file as well.

To recap:
• The Euro .jvc and sum file

• The NA .jvc and sum file

Then the Euro file didn't get updated, cause there's no modification date on it? If that's in fact the euro jcv file. Lets say it is, for arguments sake. What makes your North American maps 3 1/2 times larger than your euro file and 50% larger than mine, and I have Topo maps on mine to boot plus the DEM?

No, I don't subscribe to the EU map updates.

The Euro jvc file (and maps) are 2010.10, and way out of date as you can surmise.

As for the NA jvc, I have no idea why it is 50% larger than yours. But remember, this is not the map, just the jvc, right?

The DEM, and topo's do not comprise, or add to the content of the junction view file, AFAIK.

Just wondering, does one gps have more junction view than others.

I realized that after I sent it. Still remains that your "jcv" file seems too large. Wouldn't surprise if in fact your updated jcv file incorporates your old jcv file. Copy and delete it..see what happenes

Made a BIG difference...

No problems... The Nuvi 660 still has 354Mb left, after the new maps and POI's....

Has anyone else noticed it seems to take a lot longer now to calculate a route with the new 2012.10 maps?

Yes. To get the map update, connect your GPS to your computer, then log into myGarmin

https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces

It should let you know there's a map update for you and let you start the installation. Remember that the default installation is to GPS only, so if you want the map installed to the GPS and computer (with Mapsource), click the Install Options button in the lower left of an early window and choose the installation option you prefer.

Maps Updated!

All is well on my end. Nice to see newly added streets in Staten Island NY.

I think I'll wait

I think I'll wait until after the weekend to update. Netflix is hogging my household bandwidth right now, not to mention the Playstation network is back in service again so the grown-up kids downstairs have been online almost nonstop.

Wow!

CraigW wrote:

I had no problem with my two GPS/PC updates. I finally deleted my unneeded voice files from the nuvi 750 before updating to make sure I'd have enough room for all of NA.

I haven't test driven the new map but have looked at the file sizes. The map for all of North America is about 50 MB bigger than 2011.40 but the jcv file for those GPS units with Junction View has more than tripled in size. Maybe I'll finally see some Junction View offerings in Arizona!

I just took my 765T on the road this morning with 2012.10. Wow! We now have junction view on Long Island! Not just junction view but photo view. I was shocked when I got onto the Long Island Expressway this morning and a photo appeared showing me which lane to stay in. There was no junction view of any kind prior to 2012.10 this is was a surprise indeed. Driving 24 miles to the office I had three more instances of photos appearing. 2012.10 is definitely a worthwhile upgrade though they still have a map error that was introduced in 2011.40 (which I reported and was acknowledged).

Successfully upgraded a

Successfully upgraded a 765T, 255 and zumo 660. I have 1 more 765T to do. 1st unit, 765T, was about 70 minutes with dl and install. All others were much faster without the dl. I think the 255 was only 15 minutes or so on the install.

I noticed this morning that my only JV on the way to work is missing. It was already an accurate looking representation of the junction so I don't no why Garmin removed it. I don't see any around western Pittsburgh area right now.

Still not fixed is the highway name and driving instructions for the junction traveling north on I-79 passing Exit 59 (Pittsburgh) to destinations further north on I-79. It tells you to stay left at Exit 59A for Exit 59B which is incorrect, you want to stay left of both exits for I-79 North. My wife tries to take the 2nd exit. The last time she was driving passing that junction and I had to quickly tell her to keep going straight on I-79N.

Note that the highlighted route and the road names are correct on the map. It is the driving instructions and the road names, spoken and on the banner, that are incorrect. Exit 59A is I-279E to Pittsburgh. Exit 59B is I-376W. It was upgraded and renamed I-376 a year or 2 ago. I would never know this were wrong if the GPS would tell me to stay left on I-79 like it should.

Maybe the JVs are now gone because Garmin is fixing their data to match the maps. Just maybe?

I-85 in Alabama has some new Junction View Images

In doing some real and some simulated drives, I discovered that several new Junction Views are available for the section of I-85 from the Georgia/Alabama line south to Montgomery, AL. I haven't checked I-65 or I-59.

Not every interchange is covered. When I-85 intersects with a national or state highway, a Junction View is usually available. Interchanges where County Roads and City Streets intersect with I-85 are not usually covered.

I have a Garmin 37xx, 2012.1 map package, and am using the 4.10 software.

I love having fresh maps on my unit...no matter what number they label them smile

Short Term It Seems to be Working

Uploaded the new update last week prior to a short trip within Texas. Everything seems to be working fine so far....No real problems found at this time.

Getting ready to tak a much longer trip through New Mexico and Colorado.....Will get a much better feel then.

So far no bugs found!
