Junction view

How often does Garmin add to or update things like junction view?I live in Knoxville, TN, have a 1690 and everything works great except junction view is apparently not avaiable here. Does anyone know if that feature will be added eventually?

Junction view is supposed to be in there, but I have never seen it. So I am wondering the same thing.

Works great in Atlanta,

Works great in Atlanta, however.

I've wondered the same

I've wondered the same thing. Has anyone seen it added to a location that previously did not have it?

Re: Junction View

It's always been available on most exits in the Chicago area. I've seen a couple of the missing ones get added in the time I've had a model with the feature. However, I do find Lane Assist more useful, and less distracting.

Often Viewable

I live in the Toronto Canada area. With the last map update almost every exit on the highway shows a Junction View.

There

There are now over 3000 junction views for Canada. They are all the Photo Real pictures like the Europe version of City Navigator. These were all added in version 2011.40 of CN North America.

None in Columbia, SC either

I get no junction views near where I live either. I use my nuvis in rental cars when I travel, however, and I get them in big cities like Dallas and Fort Worth. I think they will continue to be added if you are purchasing map updates.

If you've never seen one, I have a caveat, however. Most of the ones I've seen were good and looked like the signs. In downtown Fort Worth, the ones in the maps of my 885t (which are admittedly not up-to-date) are not accurate (they don't look like the overhead signs) so they may be worse than nothing.

If you want to use these, my bottom line is you probably need to pay for lifetime maps. I plan to but haven't yet. The simple turn arrows seem better input to me than potentially inaccurate Junction views. When there is a conflict between what you see on the nuvi and the road, it is difficult for at least my brain to resolve in the amount of time that is available.

Junction View

I see it all the time when I go to Atlanta. I have also seen it pop up in Nashville. I've been to Knoxville many times and don't believe the Interstate system there is as complex as Atlanta or Nashville. Therefore, Garmin may think it's not needed there.

Probably in the future

My feeling is that Garmin is adding Junction View a little at a time. I have noticed that I get JV at places where the normal lane assist would not be sufficient - ie three different highway selections and not enough "lane" indicators to make your route clear to you.

Many JVs added recently

I've not seen a single junction view, here in Western Canada until the most recent map update. Now there are many of them. Hope Garmin will keep on adding more to cover all highway junctions.

Junction Views

I have a Nuvi 1690 and see them in Arizona and when traveling to Calif. Since the latest map update, I have seen more traveling to CA than before. I think Garmin is gradually introducing them but they have a long way to go. The ones I've seen look identical to the freeway signs. They are way cool. Usually they come up right when the GPS says something about the intersection. They don't stay on long. When it goes away, you can see the lane assist on the upper left.

Curious: Where in Arizona?

I drive through metro Phoenix freeways every weekday with a 3790 LMT and I have never seen a junction view here. I've only ever seen them in the Los Angeles area. I'm just curious where you're seeing them in Arizona, thanks.

Ditto

Ditto. I've recently driven through Phoenix and Tucson and have yet to see a single JV in the whole state.

I did talk to tech support

I did talk to tech support and was told that the junction view is not that important in Knoxville because of the minimal amount of freeways. The tech told me "that is what the little arrows do at the top of your Nuvi. Just watch them and they will tell you what lane you need to be in." DUH! However, he is sorta right. The lane assist works great. I just like the visuals.
