Help for loading POIs

I'm having a slight problem that maybe someone can help me with. I recently upgraded my maps and installed a software update from the Garmin website on my nuvi 350.

For years I've had a folder on my Mac entitled "My POIs" containing several sub-folders such as Addresses, Dining, Lodging, etc. The sub-folders contain different sets of POIs, such as in the "Dining" folder there are separate POIs for Italian, Oriental, American, etc.

In the past whenever I made a change in one of the separate POIs, Italian for example, I would use POI Loader v2.1.0 to upload the new "Italian" POI to my nuvi 350. Everything worked fine and the new POI was in the proper place, i.e., "Dining."

But now when the "Italian" POI is uploaded it replaces ALL of the other POIs. The only work-around I've found so far is to upload the entire "My POIs" folder. Can anyone tell what has caused this change? Although uploading the entire "My POIs" folder works, I would like to be able to upload individual POIs as in the past without having it delete all existing POIs.

That is how POI loader is meant to work, everytime it runs replaces whatever POIs are in the unit with whatever is sent.

All previous Custom POIs are deleted

When you try to upload New Custom POIs to your GPS with POI Loader all previous Custom POIs on your GPS are deleted and the new ones you select from your "My POIs" file on your computer are installed in your GPS.

POI Loader

I update my POI's about every week. By using "My Favorite Files", I know which ones to update. Then I run the POI Loader. I delete all POI's first, then run POI loader again and run all my POI's again. Easy enough.

again and again

Too many again when none is needed.

Once you run POI loader the files in your PC folder will over write the files in the unit "period"

There is one way to get around this. Load one custom POI file at a time. Through your computer, go into the Custom POI folder on the Garmin (or SD card) and rename that file to something else - with the same extension at the end. Then reload the next Custom POI file - it will not overwrite the first file loaded and both will work perfectly. Do this for each. It is a pain in the neck but you will no longer overwrite what you loaded before. (this may take up more physical file space but if you have an SD card it does not really matter)

I use the renaming method

I use the renaming method for my alert and tourguide files. I select the Custom Folder option in POI Loader which allows me to put the output poi.gpi file in the subfolder with my source files. I then rename and copy to nuvi. I install on several gps units depending on which files users prefer.
