Off the wall question...

This looks like a great site for updating POIs in a GPS unit. However, the Magellan 1470 that we have doesn't allow importation of POI files.

I'm especially interested in the Walmart/Sam's Club and WiFi sites besides the low clearance one, but everything seems to either be in .csv or .ov2 format.

Do you know if the files on this site can somehow be imported into our Delorme Street Atlas 2011 mapping program? If so, can you point me in the right direction to find the ones that can be used this way?

Thanks,

May not

You may not be able to import into Delorme. I use it to make route files for my Garmins and have not found a way to import POIs. If there is a way, other members of this site have probably figured it out. Be patient and check back often to see if someone knows how.

Another thought, try talking to Delorme's support to see if they can help you. They were friend back in 05 when I had problems with their product.

This might be useful to you:

I have not used it lately,

I have not used it lately, but I think you can take csv file, change to lat, long, name, convert to gpx, and drag and drop into Street Atlas.

DeLorme

There is no need to convert .CSV POI files to .GPX for import to Street Atlas USA. Beginning with Street Atlas 2010, the flie type drop-down box on the Street Atlas Draw File import dialog has a selection for "POI Factory/Garmin CSV File".

Use of POIs in Delorme Street Atlas

All of the previous statements are true, especially the one with the link from Miss POI. Do what it tells you to do and you will easily be loading your files.
Not only can you load in as many as you like, but you can check off any and all that you want to display on your map one at a time or many at a time. The only thing you will find is that too many will really clutter your map. I have loaded (and unloaded) many different POIs from this site and they all worked without a hitch.
Have fun.

Delorme POIs

I have done the following for personal use only. If you really want to "bang your head against the wall" you can find POIs in Delorme from a chosen map point or along a route, copy those files from Delorme and manipulate the output to create your own desired list of information. I have not found a really simple way, but via muliple manipuations it can be done. It all depends on how badly you want a specific list. It was fun figuring out how to do and I still have a few lumps on my head.

I realized after I posted

I realized after I posted that I was confusing Street Atlas and Mapsource. I converted CSV to TXT and imported into draw layer. It sounds like you can use CSV files directly. Sorry for any confusion.

off the wall question # 2

CAN ANY ONE TELL ME HOW TO GET CORDINATES ON CERTAIN ADDRESSES IF GPS IS NOT ACCURATE I HAVE FOUND SOME OF BIG LOTS IN BIG LOTS FILE NOT ACCURATE AND ALSO SOME OF THE PILOTS AS WELL.

2011 Street Atlas (Delorme0

I own Sa & wouldn't have any else. With Gps Babel, http://www.gpsbabel.org/download.html. You can change from one variety to another. I Change all my files from CSV to GPx files because some to the larger files wouldn't go into SA without changing them to GPX. When they are GPX files SA will handle them no matter how large they are. If you have an problems with this let me know I can usually fix them. bobinot@att.net When I say large I'm not talking about file size but the number of poi's of given database. Example Walmart has 4500 or more different poi's

Define "Not Accurate" in regard to the Pilots. Did the POI get you to a place here you can see the destination? You have to remember the entrances for trucks and cars are often different and the POI is to get you close to the location not necessarily at the fuel island.

Thanks to everyone for the quick responses. I've printed off the post from Miss POI so that I can start using all of the great info found on this site.

Sometimes I use GoogleEarth . . .

to find an address then zoom in on the map to place a pin at the exact visual location I believe to be what I want. Then the pin will show you the map coordinates. As mentioned other places/posts, some coordinates are only estimated from a street address so that's why they don't bring right up to an entranceway or access road. Still gotta keep alert for signs, too.
