Organizing POIs on my Garmin

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 to get categories for your custom pois.Make sure you load all the custom pois at one time.Every time you run poiloader it overwrites the existing files.Both units listed under your account play mp3's so if you want voice alerts.Under the sounds tab top right select from mp3's.

First off let me welcome you to the site. The answers to your questions are covered in the list of FAQs as they are very common. Several users have written EXCELLENT FAQs describing the procedures for organizing POI into separate folders that display when Custom POI is selected.

Rather than inconvenience a lot of electrons repeating the information, I'll suggest you spend a little time going through the FAQ section. If after reading the FAQs and trying the steps you have other questions, we'll be glad to answer them.

I am a senior GPS user; BUT a 100 percent novice when it comes to adding on School & Church zone POI's with audible alerts, into my Garmin Nuvi 1490T.

Can anyone tell me a tried, true and tested simple but detailed list of steps to be able to make this happen; as my only traffic citation in the past 2 years was for going 33 miles per hour through a school zone that after 20 years of living here, that I NEVER ever knew existed. And that was on a road that I travel pretty much every day.

Welcome to the site Cliffy44.Most everything you need is here on site.If you click on the poi files tab you will find plenty of school zones.Up a couple of posts is how to do custom pois.Your unit needs wav files for voice alerts see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 for information.Look over some of the information and see what you think.I will be glad to help you out and sure other members will also.

Also, Cliffy, for audible alerts for Schools and Churches as you pass by them, you'll need to read up on TourGuide instructions. A search on this site for the term TourGuide should bring up the whys and hows of renaming POI files, icons and wav files to include TourGuide.

slimsrider, Set up the menu inside Extras/Custom POIs on the nuvi by using subfolders on your PC.

Keep all your POI files on the PC inside a folder called 'Custom POIs.' Inside, make a subfolder for each category - 'Diners, DriveIns, Dives' - 'National Parks' - 'Walmarts' or whatever. This will create categories inside the nuvi menu, 'Custom POIs.'
