My 3790t does not show the factory POI icons

There has been discussion that the 3790 due to its increased resolution has different icon requirements than past nuvis. You need to reconvert the icons to a 256-color bmp. This can be done with Windows Paint or GraphicConverter on a Mac.

The icons I have are 24 bit. So I would have to reduce the colors to 8 bit.
The 3790 should be able to use a higher resolution icon if it has a higher resolution screen. I'll try a couple and see if that works for me, Doesn't make sense though.

I have the same problem. I don't see any POIs on my 3790T. What is the solution?

Use bigger icons.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to add icons which can be used like the factory loaded icons to assign to favorites?

The only thing you can do with the favorites is under the edit option to add a icon from the pre-selected list.

How do I change the icon size of the factory POIs?

So back to my original question. How do I view the factory POI icons? I'm new to the 3790T but I was able to do this in my StreetPilot 2610 when I zoomed in for enough detail.

Answer:
The nuvi 3700 series units will only display icons on the map for your saved Favorites and any custom POI files that you may have installed. You will need to zoom in the map to 200 feet or closer to view the custom POI icons. The preloaded points of interest (restaurants, hotels, attractions, etc.) will not be displayed on the map as icons.

Dang .. I wanted this GPSr too. But this POI icon issue seems to hold me back. Maybe if we can create new set of POI Icons thru this site, it will be helpful to all 3790T owners ...

So the current flagship can't display the built-in POIs and it is having problems displaying custom ones? What's going on with Garmin?

It is a VERY bad decision by Garmin not to support this. My old StreetPilot had more features that this 3790. I've also had alot of trouble with the search feature when looking for a distant place. I thought I would be able to use the Map View to find the POI and mark it as a destination. So much for that..

Saved you some money, not to mention MY money too. Was gonna let you be my Guinea Pig.

Yea, I just saw that thread. Glad to see it's resolved. Finally!

As per the Supertramp song, "Dreamer, you're nothing but a dreamer..."

The end user has to jump thru hoops to get a $400.00 GPS to function as expected. Glad I saw this was getting ready to purchase the 3790, but now I may wait. Dont feel like having to fix something that should not be broken
