765T through FM radio

I am using my 765T MP3 player and sending through my FM radio, as I do not have an audio in jack on the radio. It usually works very well, but sometimes I get a bleedover of distant radio stations, even on the unused frequencies, when weather conditions are just right.

I thought I read one time on a post here that unhooking the antenae from the radio seemed to help eliminate the distant stations from bleeding over.

Has anyone tried this and did it make a difference?

I am hoping to have some idea before I try to determine how to find the antenae connection and unplug it. Sometime these connections are buried pretty deep in the dash on newer cars.

When you put the icon to Fm converter select the station that has lot of static.

Can't Imagine

I haven't tried that, mainly because I have the opposite problem.. but I can't imagine you would even get reception from the nuvi if you disconnected the antenna at the radio.

My 765T's FM transmitter is so anemic that I can't even get my Honda Odyssey's rear side window antenna to pick it up when my unit is on the windshield up by the mirror!

I'd try what hojo0071 suggested first, I think.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

Your radio antenna is what

Your radio antenna is what picks up you FM-carrier mp3 music. You might pick the frequency you use with a bit more care towards radio signal strength.

This will help. I set my Locale To United Kingdom and that increased my FM output to max 115db which stop my weak signal troubles on my nuvi 765.

setting your locale

that sounds interesting to set the locale to the UK. I am not sure how to do that.

Did it affect other settings, though?

Here is a C/P from the thread

Please backup your favourites first!. This will erase your user data.
The only thing difference I notice is the speed display is round instead rectangle shape.

The trick is go indoors where you can't get a sat signal. Then do a clear user data
* hold finger on lower right of screen
* while holding turn on
* keep finger on screen until it asks you if you want to overright user data
* make sure your data is backed up if you don't want to lose anything.
* click yes and when it boots up make sure you use "United Kingdom" as a locale. I think this overwrites the FCC regulation. Of course the language will default to Brit.
* Go into volume and select FM transmitter and select a station. Go back twice.
* Go into the maintenance screen by holding battery
* Change to FM power and boost the DB level to 115. DO NOT click the FM power checkbox or it may not take.
* Go back 4 times and exit.
* Check the Nuvi on your radio. If you don't hear anything do a software reset by holding the power button to the left for 8 seconds until it reboots. I had to do this.
* You will know if this is working because initially when the Nuvi boots up you will hear the tone it makes on your FM radio with the usual hissing on the FM channel. Then it will load maps. when it's almost done loading the maps you will hear the FM power boost click in and the static mostly goes away.
* Try out your fav MP3's now!

I just use a hard wired fm

I just use a hard wired fm modulator. It makes things much easier.

885T

The FM transmitter is the part of my 885T with which I am most dissatisfied. Will mrbombastic's suggestion work on the 885 and, if so, how do I back up my favorites?

Another interesting little tidbit. I tried and external FM transmitter with the Nuvi. The transmitter works reasonably well with MP3 players (I've used it with three different brands) but when connected to the Nuvi the sound quality is horrible and, the real mystery, the signal seems worse (bleed and static). Any thoughts?

Garmin nuvi 1300LM with 4GB SD card Garmin nuvi 200W with 4GB SD card Garmin nuvi 260W with 4GB SD card r.i.p.

I tried this

Several times, and it seems like it works. In fact on the maint screen where you change the power setting there is actually a box you can check for power boost that bumps the value to 115 db.

I back up 4 screens and exit and the Nuvi reboots. The FM then plays fine, but if I then go back into the maint screen to look at the setting it is back to 107 db and the power boost button is again unchecked.

It seems like this setting does not get saved? or does it?

765T Transmitter

The transmitter power setting is not saved. There are only two ways to get a permanent power boost that I am aware of. One is to switch locale's to a country where the higher power is permitted such as the UK and possibly Canada. The other, if the unit is no longer covered by a warranty, is to open the unit up and do a small soldering job. There is information on the net on how to do it but it is not for the faint of heart.

I have had mostly good luck with the stock transmitter setting in my own vehicle. For other vehicles I occasionally drive, I picked up a Coby CA-745 FM transmitter (http://www.cobyusa.com/?p=prod&prod_num_id=192&pcat_id=4008) and it works very well as it has a higher output power than the 765T. Since it plugs into an audio jack, it will only work with a GPS that has an audio out jack. Garmin's newer 1xxx, 2xxx and 3xxx devices do not have audio out jacks so it will not work with them.

I support the right to keep and arm bears.

I have already switched local to UK,and can change the setting

in the maint screen to a higher power ( the default is 107 db and I can boost to 115 db), but as I said before, it does not stick. As soon as you exit this screen the unit reboots and I THINK it then just defaults back to 107 db. I have no way to verify this except to go back into the maint screen and look, and it is always back to 107 db.

Is there a way to get to this screen with the DC power plugged in? the only way I know to do so is hold down the battery level indicator, which you don't see unless you are on battery power.
