Nuvi 7x5 - 4.00 Update Bug with GLG?

I updated my Nuvi 755T to firmware 4.00 and have seen many issues resolved as stated by Garmin.

Then today I tried to play the audio from the Garmin Language Guide and it would not play. I have done a hard reset umpteen times and also re-installed the newest voices that match the voices in the GLG.

I reinstalled the GLG chip after erasing the LEX_PKG from the nuvi folder and still have the same no audio issue.

The speaker Icon does not turn red frame as it did when under 3.90.

I then went back to 3.90 firmware and it worked excellent. (without a hard reset even!!!)

Now I went back to 4.00 and no GLG audio in any words or phrases. (again many hard resets.)

Can anyone confirm this is a 4.00 bug with the Garmin Language Guide and will we have to wait for a fix (DoH!)

Or am I missing something simple?
Thanks

Confirmed! GLG is broken under 4.00. It is still better than the other bugs. I suppose Garmin will be advised eventually. It will probably require a fix to the firmware since I gather GLG is working fine with non-7x5 models.

Confirmed

Language Guide is shot but thankfully the mp3 player still works. I could live with this... smile

Oh boy, yet another bug. I'm glad I don't use the Language Guide. This should be reported to Garmin ASAP...

Confirmed

I hope fix come out soon.

They broke it again!!!

They broke it again!!!

Time for a little perspective, perhaps?

OK, they broke something, but who is actually affected? Unless someone had bought the full add-on product

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1280#productTab

all that's really lost for the moment are the examples provided in a little sample version of the Guide. Does anybody here really depend on the sample version?

From Garmin's description of the full product, I can think of a lot better uses for my nuvi's card slot as well as the $75 they want every time something changes.

If they had to break something in this last update, I can't think of a better part to foul up than this. laugh out loud

Of course, anyone who owns the full product has my sympathy if Garmin broke it, and we'd like to know what support Garmin offers as a result.

No matter if I use feature

No matter if I use feature or not I want unit to be bug free. And I actually own retail version of language guide which proved VERY helpful overseas or helping non English speaking tourist.

I contacted Garmin and here is reply:
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

We are working on releasing another software update for the Nuvi 7X5 series to correct that issue. Please keep checking with the WebUpdater program for another update for your unit.

Hopefully v4.1 will correct this issue (and NOT brake anything else) and 7x5T series will become the best nuvi ever.

Yes, a repair to this update is really needed

I'm friends with a co-worker who is from the Philippines and has bought a Garmin 755T since moving here.

She (and her family) have enjoyed using the GPS for trips and has LOVED the added benefit of owning the Oxford Guide to better understand the English language..

She has many other resources for learning English, but has really enjoyed the portability of the Oxford dictionary and phrase program while on the road.

My wife & I use it regularly to brush up on foreign words before traveling to another country and the kids enjoy it for the spelling of foreign words.

I just want to emphasize that Garmin needs to thoroughly beta test (not us as end-users) their firmware/software before they release it.

It can be VERY frustrating to update a Garmin GPS and then head out on the road only to find something buggy other than the way it worked before the update.

I am quite sure the message board would light up if Garmin pushed a 4.10 update and it disabled Karen from giving directions. razz

Cheers!

I could give Garmin a pass on the GLG problem as that is an add-on product and may not have a large installed base (no idea how you would track the total sales). It is the broken built-in stuff I find indefensible such as the traffic and touch screen in 3.90.

I'm glad to hear they are on top of it and that there will be a 4.10. Of course based on past history it may be December before we see it. Hopefully they will add any other fixes they have lying around to that update. I would mind seeing some extra features like the recently added red speed indicator (perhaps making it switchable).

Helloooooooo!!!

Did anyone really think Garmin could put out a fix without screwing something else up???? In their case History always repeats....

Long one. Peace...

How would you track total sales? Simple. They should know how many CDs distributer(s) bough from them and how many on-line orders have been placed and been paid. What distributer(s) do with CDs, that is not their problem. If I am software developer and I sell to distributer 1000 copies of my code that is 1000 copies of my code sold – no returns.
Add-on or not add-on it has to work! You drive a car, right? So power windows, power locks, radio, CD, MP3 player, heated seats, air-condition, heating, fan, ABS, interior light, should I go on? are ALL ADD-ONS and completely Unnecessary to move you from A to B, but you still enjoy them, right?
Therefore if manufacturer designed something and developed and even sells as add-on (GLG cost about $75 or something like that) then I expect it to work properly!

More and more manufacturers depend on large base of early adopters to debug their wares. EGO is what drives sales. How many people REALLY needed iPad??? Correct. ZERO. But still there were line ups and fights. Why? There is something in that feeling that ‘I HAVE and you do Not’.
There is no way that Garmin would properly test every single unit and every single firmware. They would need 1000 employees for each unit so they can get in every imaginable and unimaginable situation on and off road and press all kind of combination of keys or places on screen. Is that possible? No. That is where early adopters come in. BTW, most likely developers are somewhere in some village in India or China working for $10 a day and what the heck they know about GPS, satellites and similar.
Therefore we have to live with software/hardware bugs and be persistent in pestering manufacturers to correct them. If EVERY member of this forum – owner of 7x5T would send an e-mail to Garmin and demand fix, and keep sending it every week, Garmin will fix it (maybe) sooner than later. But most people are lazy and expect that somebody else will do that for them.
