Garmin express keeps saying it has to install traffic text GLX V2

My first post on the forum, so hello everyone!

Each time I launch Garmin Express (using the most recent version) it keeps saying that there is an update to install for my Nuvi 2559LMT

"Traffic Text GLX V2" (Version 1.6 file size 1.16MB with added support for Farsi and updated traffic translations) and even though I've installed it many times, the next time I launch Garmin Express there it is again sad

Any suggestions as to how I can fix this?

couple things

First off, welcome to the forums. Like any Internet board there is every type of person from the truly helpful to the totally irreverent.

Others will be along to tell you not to do anything until you create a full backup and direct you to the FAQs and tutorials.

As to your problem with Express, make certain you have the latest version (it updates about once per week). The other thing you can do is to do a hard reset (instructions are in the FAQs and tutorials).

I have a 2595 and Garmin

I have a 2595 and Garmin Express offers me this update as well. It is an optional update. You do not have to install it if you don't want to and can just ignore it if you so choose. (As I do.) This is what many people here actually did a couple of weeks ago when Garmin released a faulty update for the Time Zones. Unfortunately, I don't believe you can tell Garmin Express to stop reminding you or ignore it (like Windows Update optionals) so it will keep reminding you for all of eternity. rolleyes Eventually I'll probably cave and take it or zone out and take it by mistake and then the reminder will stop. (maybe) Also, if there are any firmware updates for your Nuvi, Garmin Express will tell you that too, but will install them as mandatory (no choice) before proceeding with the map download and update. This is a sore point for many of us here as Garmin has released several firmware updates over the life of my unit which have changed or messed up some of the useful features. Subsequent updates have not fixed them. sad

Good luck and welcome to The Factory!

Thank you both for your kind

Thank you both for your kind words of welcome. A factory reset of the device seems to have cured this as it hasn't reappeared when I checked to see if the latest North America maps are out yet earlier today and hopefully the reminder will now stay away too!

Welcome

Glad to hear the issue was solved
Many times a hard reset will cure problems, just make sure you make a backup of your favorites (saved places) or you will lose them as well as any tweaks you made to your settings.

Also, sometimes Garmin has some bugs in their firmware so it's always smart to keep it updated.

I have a discontinued Nuvi 2460LMT whose firmware has not been updated for some time now and won't be in the future.
When updating I always get a message my Traffic Provider.xml file needs updating. This is false since the latest version is installed. I even let it update the file only to discover on my next check it indicates I need to update. The unit works properly so I now just ignore that message.

Nuvi 2460LMT 2 Units

.

Consider this a bug that keeps re-appearing from time to time on various other units as well and also affects other updates that have already been applied to the unit. For some reason, the unit's firmware does not write the correct value (or version number of what was updated) to the GarminDevice.xml file. WebUpdater & Garmin Express polls GarminDevice.xml and compares the values stored in it to what is current according to the update server. If differences are found, the user is prompted for the update.

This has happened in the past and will likely happen again in the future. As long as you yourself know that you already updated what is being shown as having an update, you'll be fine. The update being shown & which you've already performed can be ignored.

This bug seems to apply to my 2595

Hi DorkusNimrod: This seems to apply to my unit. I "caved" and took the Traffic update update over the weekend and Garmin Express stills offers it anyway. I haven't done a hard re-set...I'll probably do that after the next map update.

I always worry its a virus

Get the type pop up for Adobe about every 3 weeks, no way to get rid of it.

Malwarebytes or CC cleaner

Malwarebytes or CC cleaner provide an easy tool to disable it in startup. I have disabled all these annoying background jobs with CC cleaner. The worst are the HP ones that send constant reminders to purchase ink, paper, check for updates, etc. (The printer is a few years old now, so there never is.)

As DorkusNimrod has stated

This sort of bug has been around for many years (+ 5) therefore just consider it as being normal behaviour grin
