Upcoming Streets on 2011.10

Has anyone else noticed with the new map update, that upcoming streets are now displayed on the map itself (not the green bar)?

After driving around yesterday and today, I've found it is showing up to 4 streets ahead. I thought it was very cool that they've 'fixed' that little problem.

Upcoming Streets on 2011.10

I’ve been using my 755t with the new map set (2011.10) and my GPS is working problem free.

Now if they will just add back the details that they removed... I'd be a happier Garmin customer.

Which Mode?

Is that just in 3D Mode or is that 2D as well?

I only use 2D, track up, so I don't know for sure. Try it, you may like it! grin

I don't think so... Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Original complaint

I thought that was the original complaint; that the upcoming intersection roads were removed from the Green Bar and would only show up on the map at certain (close) magnification.

Maybe all my complaining here, on other boards and to Garmin has finally paid off.

Now improve the street detail density and I'll be even happier.

No, it was that it was removed from the green bar, IIRC.

The view of the upcoming cross streets wasn't on the map before. Not like this.

On my 765T, it looks really cool - not only it shows the upcoming street names, the font size gets larger and larger as the upcoming cross street becomes closer - all in a very fluid like motion.

Well, either the upcoming streets are there, or not. Why wait? Put in your feedback.

I've always noticed most cross street names come up as you approached them, about 2 or 3 ahead. Not sure how this is different but I don't have 2011.10 yet.

Does this apply to 2011.10 when loaded on the 7x0 series as well?? I will most likely be returning my 765T for a full refund and reverting back to my 780 due to the map detail and other functional issues instead of the fancier or extra graphic renderings of the 7x5 series.

Guys;

We're discussing the fact that the older models would have the next cross street name posted in the banner box (the green line at the top of the screen) when you weren't navigating, not whether Garmin posts the street names on the map itself if you happen to zoom in close enough.

Garmin removed the feature (except for when you were on an urban limited access highway) and reduced the zoom levels at which they would include secondary streets on the display with the release of the XX5 series.

From what the OP says, it seems that they may have returned the street name feature at least to the people.

Certainly there've been enough posts and threads on the subject that it should not be a confusing situation.

The feature is back. Or it is not back. All that needs be done is to determine whether it is or not and whether was a function of the map update, the firmware or both.

Shouldn't there be a changelog? I can't tell because Garmins doesn't post the XX5 and newer firmware on the update site.

I had always thought all the Nuvi models show the cross streets and intersections.I have had my unit for over a year now and they have always showed.Until this thread never knew some did and some not.My curiosity got the best of me.Not very scientific but went to the Garmin products page and looked at the picture in the manual of different models listed on this post. Many don't show cross streets and intersections.Like I say not very scientific data but does confirm what was stated on here.So a big plus now for others units.Beats me why this would be different on different models.

Edit.In the banner box.It shows the street for the next turn.

I noticed this yesterday in 3D view. I wasn't sure if it was part of the update or I never noticed before.

I also had software updates a day before the map update.

There is a problem with the 855 maps see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/28815 once it is squared away go to https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces sign in and go to manage maps.

Here are screen shots from my 755T for the center of Iowa City on 3 different zoom levels on version 2010.40 and 2011.10. I don't see much difference in detail, so maybe it varies by location.

Interesting. You may well be right, in that it may vary by location. Perhaps denser areas can only fit so much info?

I wish we could get a definitive answer to this.

Seeing it as well

I am seeing this activity as well. It is rather interesting to see some of the street names fade in and then fade away. I just wish my POI icons would show up like they do on my C550. If they show up at all, they are quite tiny.

I believe the 750/760 models were among the last models to display the upcoming cross street name in the green bar. The 755 and xx5 models never did this if I'm not mistaken.

What I've noticed with the 2011.10 map update is that in 3D mode, the upcoming cross street names "float" towards the intersection as you approach. In that regard the street names remain in view as you close in on the cross streets.

In use, the 750 only displayed the street names in the bar in "free driving" mode. If following a route the route info was in the green bar. Now, in route mode, that remains the same, but the street names float into view as described above. I like it.

I read that there was some sort of problem with the 2011.10 update for the 800 series. The only thing different for the 800 series are the ASR files for voice recognition and I can't imagine how they managed to mess them up.... but I also read the update won't be out for the 800 series until May sometime.
