Using my Garmin as an address book

Howdy,
I recently got a Garmin 255W and have really appreciated what it can do. Thanks to POI factory, I have come across Extra POI Editor, that has allowed me to enter my own POIs.

One great thing about using Garmin POIs, it allows me to place my address book on my Garmin. I used to use a Palm Pilot for calendar, address book, etc., but it started dying on me. I went back to a written calendar, but carrying around an address book was a bit of a pain, until I got my Garmin.

Besides Extra POI Editor, are there any other spreadsheet/database software that one can use for entering POIs? Though Extra POI has been pretty easy to use, I was wondering if there was anything smoother to use and convert files.

.

Microsoft Excel
Notepad

or any text editor.

Although you can obviously do it, use of a GPS as an address book is pretty cumbersome except for emergencies. I think you are talking about a minimum of 5 taps before you can start a spell search.

5 taps

I have done the same thing... IMHO the convenience of always having it with me far outweighs the number of taps. YMMV.

Might be handy..

If you go with Excel, my add-in for it has a macro to toggle a "header" on and off which shows the gpx field names. And when you're ready it will launch either EPE or GeePeeEx right from Excel with the current file. Might be handy for what you're doing. It's at:

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

This looks to be very helpful!

Thanks a bunch for pointing this out to me. (And thanks for programing this.) This will be very helpful for when I put the rest of my address book on my GPS.
