Magellan explorist 200 and geocaching

A couple years ago I recieved an explorist 200 and I would like to use it for geocaching. I have used this gps very little and would like to know if this gps is good for this and if so how do I go about using it.

Thanx,

I used my Garmin eTrex for this and still take it along with me when I geocache. I let my daughter use it while I use my Mio. The Garmin is obviously more portable and water resistant to boot, so it's really my favorite for geocaching... On both, I set up a track and start searching, that way if I don't find the loot, I can always come back and have my track there so I don't go over the same turf twice. That's another reason I love the Mio, it stores tracks that can be exported.

I just looked that model up

I just looked that model up and it's almost the same as my eTrex Legend, size wiae, and it seems to have about the same features too. I'd say that you use your car GPS to get you in the neighborhood, then hoof it with that 200. Either way, it's a good, clean, healthy sport to participate in, and that's what I need, more time in the outdoors, less time on the couch...

eXplorist 200

Hello Robin,
Today I successfully located my 1st Geocache with my eXplorist 200 along with my 14 yr. old son. Once I figured out how to enter the coords it was very accurate and put me right near the cache. The only downside is all coords must be done directly into the gps as the 200 does not have external access to a pc but otherwise it worked well. It's a great way to get outdoors and get some exersize (I do work outdoors all the time though). I think I will enjoy geocaching but if I ever upgrade I will be sure to get a gps that hooks up to my laptop via usb cable.

I have an Explorist 500 and

I have an Explorist 500 and used to use it all the time for geocaching. It is a great way to get outdoors and see places you would never see if it wasn't for that. I now have a Garmin 60Cx that I use. The "maggie" is now the faithful backup. -AD

Funny you say you now have a

Funny you say you now have a Garmin 60CX that is the model I am interested in now. Because I already have an i3 I am allowed to install my mapping software onto one more and the 60cx will accept my city navigator NT software which allows me to navigate, geocache and anything else I want to do. How much did you pay for the 60cx? Why did you stop using your Maggie 500? I heard they aren't too bad but not nearly as good a navigator as the 60cx.

That's why I bought it.

That's why I bought it. Wanted something that could do a little more. I kinda got tired of waiting for software and firmware updates from Magellan. I got a good deal @ www.tigergps.com. I had a AMEX gift card that I got for christmas and used that towards the price. So it all worked out great. The Garmin is fantastic. -AD
