I just ordered a Nuvi 255W to replace my Streetpilot c330. I've already got a friction mount for the Streepilot. Will it work with the Nuvi, or do I need to buy a new friction mount?
If the 330 is like the 340 which I think it is.You will need a different mounting arm bracket. The old one that slides into the friction mount is design for the cradle. The 255 will require the ball mount to slide into the friction mount because it does not mount the same way.I had a 340 with same set up and purchased a 265wt.Called Garmin to purchased the new one to work with friction mount. They sent it to me free.
Nope, you will need a new friction mount for the Nuvi. I had to do the same.
All he needs is the ball mount arm to slide in the friction mount. Not the complete friction mount.
Go to this site listed below and scroll down and you will see it for $14.06 . http://www99.shopping.com/xCC-garmin_friction_mount~FD-0~PG-... .
Would talk to Garmin first.
Great info. Thanks.
I had a 330 a few years ago. When I bought my Nuvi I had to buy a new friction mount. The Nuvi would not fit the old mount. They may have come out with a new conversion type of mount since then, but I'm thinking that they are different types of friction mounts. As Charles 45 stated, check with Garmin first before buying one online.
Here is the mount I am talking about for the c330 http://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-Friction-Dash-Mount-for-St... .The part I refer to above http://www99.shopping.com/xCC-garmin_friction_mount~FD-0~PG-... slides into the friction mount. The 255 requires the ball mount arm. You will notice in the picture for the new part the arm and the small base. You only need the arm but it comes in a package with both parts. The base comes in handy if you want to attach to a clip and mount to another vehicle.
Garmin is sending me a mounting arm bracket for free. Thanks for the advice!
They are right nice there. As I stated before you only need the arm.You can take the base plate and put it on a clip and make another mount with it.
