Ive actually been a member for a year and half now, but thanks for the welcome back.

Ive come across those kinda articles before. I believe they do work in reducing red lite runners. I am one of them. And I also believe that when they do work like that, the revenues for the cities get lower due to less violations.

Most peeps arent technically inclined. Although, with Garmins POI loader, its fairly simple. Back in the old Garmin days (just a few years back, if recollect correctly), it was pretty confusing on what needed to get done, even for a techie. Even to this day, some of the gps manufactuers make it difficult.

Red Light services

I signed up for 2 services a year ago. I also had free service on this site after I had active status.

1. POI-Factory offers free red lite files when active. All others charge.

2. Both paid services were updated pretty much quarterly.

3. Ive come across red lite cameras where POI-Factory lit up the gps while the others did not.

4. Both paid sites charged more. $25 and $27.

5. Contacting support was a few days process via email. Ms. POI pretty much replies within a few hours.

6. One of the paid sites is no longer active.

7. Both paid sites used other services to obtain their database. Im sure they used POI-Factory data.

8. I could go on all day....but I gotta get back to work.

A big AMEN to that! I've been using GPSs for a while but had no idea there were red-light camera POIs until I stumbled across a reference to this site on another forum. Joined 3 weeks ago and loaded the files into my nuvi 780. Took a backroads trip from VA though MD up to PA and it saved my butt twice! The visual and audible alert was perfect! Kudos to Ms. Poi and all you contributors! smile

Update Everyweek

Yep, the best around. Ever since I found the site, I make sure I have my cameras updated every week. I may not use the GPS on the road everyday or for a week, I want them updated for the quick trip that you didn't know you were going to take.

just downloaded the file

awesome hearing the gps notify me of camera locations. wasn't sure how it was going to work. just automatically beeped when i got to the intersection. pretty cool.

I agree

I haven't used other camera POIs, but being in the DC area we have a ton of cameras. I have yet to discover one that is not in the file which tells me it is highly accurate, at least in DC, but I assume everywhere.

Redlight Camera file works great

with my Nuvi 760.

Great For Trips

This service works very well especially if you are going on a trip to unfamiliar locations. My alert went off in El Paso, TX when I got off the freeway to get a burger for the road. Their cameras are less obvious than other places. The people responsible for this site do an outstanding job keeping this file updated as well as giving a forum for other poi creators to share their work.

DC

I am in the DC area too and I think the red light camera file here is the best!

Just love the red light

Just love the red light cameras for Phoenix. POI Facotory is a Life saver. Thanks!!!

Camera Subscription

I just subscribed for the safety cameras but thought the money was well worth the information I am getting here. However I am living in Brazil and seeking information on how to update the current Brazil redlight / speed camera file I received from one of the senior members.. Any information out there ??

Some were original

My Mio came with a red light camera.
In subsequent updates that file was "lost." I guess it presented legal liabilities.

Transitioned to a Garmin and found out about this place & joined. Still working on ferreting out incorrect RL cameras in MD.

I'm a very happy user of the POI-Factory red light camera file. In the end, it is us - the users, and Miss POI that make it the net's best. smile

are correct, files are great and updated every week.

Another Congratulations

Are in order. I just spent much more time than I wanted to in downtown Portland, OR. The heads up on the cameras were right on the money.

God how I hate downtowns in big cities. Fortunately, I am back in Idaho, were they do not have of these cameras.

Thanks again for the files.

Hey there;) I live in Boise too and just got back from a trip to Portland.

It is nice to be back home to our beautiful calm city.

Verifications

Cyberian75 wrote:

From a POI-factory user point - if the gps lights up and there is no camera, then the user would report it to Ms. Poi. Same goes with a new camera. A lot of help is needed from this user community to keep that red light file updated.. and its a great hard working community so far.

As for how MS Poi verifies, well thats a question for her....

Lots of work

I look for news reports, government reports, and other users that have visually verified locations in that city in the past.

I spend a few hours each week working on this file.

Miss POI

Added this yesterday....thanks

This is a great file. I added it yesterday to my custom POI file and gave it a run last night.

Emily, in no uncertain terms, warned me of a light I did not know about downtown Seattle....nice.

Thanks

I absolutely love the Red Light and Speed camera POI's! Worth every penny! Working on my active status, but if that doesn't work out I know I will renew when the time comes.

Dont know about Potatoes

ewayne1941 wrote:

Not so sure about potatoes, however, I remember in my younger years driving to Idaho to buy Coors beer. Not sure it was worth it but it was the thing to do when Coors was not available in Washington. Our staples were Olympia and Rainer.

I also remember the trips to Canada for the good beer.

Even North of the border

Miss POI even recently added all the new redlight and speed cameras in Quebec to the list, a big plus for tourists.
I am sure that I speak for everyone who uses this board when I say "Thanks for all your efforts" Miss POI.
