You use the map thingy to select which sections and then tell it to transfer the selection to the unit.

I don't use Mapsource, but I got that from reading the info on gpsfiledepot.

Two tips

Greetings,

If you have this free map, it looks great:

Two tips: First, rememeber that many Garmin devices have a 2035-segment limit for created maps, although I doubt that this single state's topo will exceed this. Garmin's Topo USA (covering the whole USA at 1:100k detail) does exceed the 2035-sgment limit by a lot. Second, just in case you or others reading this haven't used Mapsource before to create and send map segments to a GPS, you don't need to individually click each segment of the topo to select it (as at least one person had been doing from comments I've read in some Garmin forums)--simply click and drag the mouse pointer from one corner of the topo map in Mapsource to the opposite diagonal corner, then release the mouse left-button to select the entire map. Make sure you're zoomed out enough that the entire state is displayed to simplfy the task.

Free, bonus 3rd tip wink Also, for those reading this that are new to Mapsource, the map selecting tool is the irregular pentgon icon that looks something like the state of Minnesota (to me, at least) which is just to the left of the magnifying glass Zoom Tool.

Tip 2 correct.

This tip is correct - I have the TOPO 2008 maps for my CX and now my Edge 605. The state selection using CNNA NT will allow you to select individual states for upload, provided you have an unlock code for your device. - See my post about Garmin's relaxed map license policy.
