Garmin Nuvi 760 - Arrival Time wrong?

When I'm on the highway my unit estimates the arrival time correctly, but when in the city the arrival time is typically 5 minutes before when I actually arrive. Is this a known issue?

.

Your gps is functioning properly. The gps bases the arrival time strictly on driving time. It does not take into account any type of stops, including stoplights.

..

Clearly, you drive too slow!!

You are driving too fast...

I will report to the cop to issue you a ticket smile. The GPS time is just the estimate as you drive. It will go up and down depend how you drive and traffic.

Estimated time

I have found the arrival time to be pretty accurate. It is only an estimate though and I don't rely on it except to get an idea of how much longer I have to go.

I believe he ment the inital

I believe he ment the inital ETA when the route is first generated.

Curious...

Since the unit is constantly updating, I find that when I arrive at my destination, the arrival time always matches the estimate. It may be different from the estimate at the start of the trip, but if I'm sitting at a light or in traffic, I see the estimated arrival time getting later and later. wink

Agreed. Both my units constantly update and adjust the arrival time based upon speed and remaining distance to target. I've never seen anything but.

Speed Up

I always make sure to adjust my driving speed based on the arrival time of my GPS. I care too much to let it be wrong.

I'd rather pass this feature

Exchange this feature to "current speed".
In Asian garmin 760, there's a feature allow you to switch the left-down corner between current speed and ETA...I love that, but can't see in US model...

5 min...thats close

I am very impressed with the ETA..on all my Garmins. I will say though I was trying out my 660 and my 760 side by side..and the 760 was about 5 min different that the 660...But they were both very close on a 144 mile trip

Had you been using both of

Had you been using both of them side by side for a while before your test?

If not you forgot about the units adaptive learning.

They will learn how you drive and hence the difference between the two. If you hard reset/remove all your personal data on both then I would bet the ETAs would agree.

yeah I guess I typically go

yeah I guess I typically go through an area with *a lot* of stoplights. It does get more accurate as I get closer to the destination, but only because it adds minutes. Overall it's typically a good estimate though. thanks for the help.

Accurate road information helps

I have a 250. On the open highway on long trips it is remarkably accurate estimating arrival time even when hours from the destination - naturally you need to add deliberate stops!

Off the main road the numbers get less accurate. My theory is that these minor roads have been just generally graded by the local authority at some number (as an average) so some are "faster" and some "slower" than others to the 250. The same most likely applies in town but to a lesser extent. In town the problems are more traffic, roadworks, lights, etc.

No matter - I find that arrival estimate most useful.

speed and arrive

Could you please tell me how to switch the left-down corner between current speed and ETA??? My Gamin 760 had sometime switched this window by itself and I coudn't know how it occours or how I can do it.

@ pnovaes

I guess you mean indicator on map screen? There is no manual switch. It works like that: when you are driving without setting destination then unit displays in left down corner current speed. When you set destination and unit is guiding you than you see there ETA. It is switched automatically and there is no option to change this behavior.

Thanks for the hint. I think

Thanks for the hint.
I think my unit has some problem because I'm always setting the destination, however sometimes even setting the destination it displays in left down corner current speed instead of ETA. Actually it is indicating only speed lately. I'll try a new destination to see if the ones that are in the memory files are corrupted. I really prefer to have ETA.
Once again, thank you for the help.

earlier

Has more to do with traffic, stop lights, etc., than anything else. I almost always get to my destination a few minutes before what my 765t estimate before I started. I may be wrong, but it could depend on the city, who set up the mapping. Doubt if I would worry over a 5 minute time deviation, either way.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.
