POI Loader problems

I have run into an strange problem with POI loader. I have downloaded an Excel file of Ohio Historical Markers. I have moved columns around to match what POI loader needs to see. Columns A and B are coordenates, column C lists the Marker # and name and column D is the town. The file was saved as a .CSV file.

POI Loader won't load it. I don't get an error message, POI Loader just closes without loading the file. The total file is around 1280 entries and to make trouble shooting easier, I split the file in half and then in half again until I got it to load. Here is the strange part.

POI Loader will load 200 entries but closes when I try to load 300. I can load the first 200 or delete the first 100 and load 200 through 300 with no problem. As soon as I try to load 300 entries, POI Loader closes without any error messages.

Garmin's web site seems to indicate that there isn't any limit to the number of POIs the program will handle. The only limit is the amount of free memory available on the unit, I have over 700 mbit free on a 2 gig card.

Has anyone run into something like this before and, if so, what did you do to solve the problem?

You have errors in the

You have errors in the file.Open back up in excel and re-check.You could also load them to extra poi editor http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor and see if you you have the same problem loading them there. If no problem loading them to extra poi editor view them for any problems. Can you post one line of the csv file that you know is a problem with like line 300?

POI Loader problems

Thanks Charles but there aren't any problems that I can find with the file. It doesn't make any difference WHICH 300 lines of the file I try to load, POI loader closes without loading the file.

Line 2 is as follows:
-83.43982,39.535893,Marker #01-24 - Fayette County Court House - Archibald M. Willard Murals,1-Jan-03,Fayette,Washington Court House

Line 300 is as follows:
-84.73065,39.505732,Marker #15-9 - Langstroth Cottage,1-Jan-02,Butler,Oxford

It seems as if there is a limit to the number of POIs that the program will load into the GPS. If I load lines 200 through 400, it loads fine but if I try to load lines 200 though 500 it closes. Same for lines 1 thorough 200, it loads fine but lines 1 through 300 won't load.

.

Jack - email me the file and I can take a look at it.

I have files a lot bigger

I have files a lot bigger then that loaded with poiloader.Error some where in the file.I was going to suggest sending the file but GadgetGuy has offered and he is pretty good at things like this.Let him look at it.

Problem found...I think

I think I've finally found the problem with this file. It appears that the folks who generated the spreadsheet entered and 0 (number zero) for latitude and longitude if they didn't have the correct numbers. POI Loader won't complain but it won't handle as many missing coordinates as the file contains.

I finally sorted the data and deleted all the entries without valid coordinates and the result loaded. Over 500 entries loaded with no problem. Now I have to figure out how to generate a place holder that POI Loader will accept. Strange that it didn't complain, just closed.

Thanks for the help and the offers.

For dummy coordinates

For dummy coordinates use -34 degrees latitude with random minutes and -58 degrees longitude with random minutes. Note that both of those are negative numbers. That is near Buenos Aires, Argentina. It will keep your unknown locations at the bottom of any list, but can be sorted on the latitude value and any negative number is invalid.
