City Navigator 2010 North America Now Available

According to another forum, the City Navigator NT 2010 maps are now available for download (file name Garmin_RMU_CNNANT2010.exe).

I just got a 760 today, so I'll be downloading the new map later tonight and reporting back.

EDIT: Looks like chewbacca was the first to report the new maps in the 2009 MAP UPDATES discussion at 00:48 this a.m.

I just. . .

I just took the plunge too. I bought lifetime and I'll have mine Tuesday. I bought from Amazon - 95.45 free shipping

The 86.00 from Amazon ships from ANTonline.

I know the reviews are 50/50 thus far, but I am leaning towards more favorable. I plan on keeping my 760 for a couple of years, as I am not impressed with the latest feature stripping antics of the new Garmin 7x5 and 12/13xx products.

I'll wait and see what is available then; if anything sad

I have a 755t enroute now... I'd been reading that some people are having issues with the new maps, etc. Has everything been resolved now? I'd hate to waste my free map download if things aren't 100% yet.

The nuMaps guarentee said that you need to register within 60 days of aquiring a signal... have you registered? Seems silly to ask, but...

How long?

How long does it take for the changes you report on navteq to make it to the maps? Is the map reporter at the Navteq website the most upto date map that could possibly show up on a map update?

.

piraveenshan wrote:

A long time assuming the changes even make it to the map. I recall seeing a couple of posts where people reported issues and didn't receive a response for a year or so. Others have reported issues and never received responses.

But if you discover issues you should still report them.

piraveenshan wrote:

You would probably have to contact Navteq to get the answer.

But even if the map reporter did show the absolute latest maps, there is no telling when you would see the corresponding maps on the Garmin units. Thats because Garmin seems to use maps which are at least one update behind the current Navteq maps. The reason for this is that once Garmin receives the maps from Navteq they have to code the maps for their units. So its impossible for the Garmin units to have the absolute latest maps released by Navteq.

Just got the new 2010.1 map!

Thanks to the information on this thread I was able to update my map for free! I was still within the 60 days. Thanks Again For The Info!!! What a great site!

good to hear I got a new 760 a few mopnths back hopefully I can also get the update

Navteq map version is displayed in MapSource's Map Product Info

The actual Navteq map version is displayed in MapSource's Map Product Information screen that will show both Garmin's map version number and the Navteq map version number.

These are the last three garmin map updates with both version numbers and you can see from the Jan 2009 release to the Apr 2009 release the map version made a big jump. I think with the new quarterly map updates maps will probably be a lot more current then they used to be.

City Navigator North America 2009 is Navteq map version # 10.00

City Navigator North America 2009.1 is Navteq map version # 11.10

City Navigator North America 2010.1 is Navteq map version # 13.10

Yes I registered within 60 days, I downloaded one free 2009.10 update, so you cannot get a second update for free. Im debating purchasing the lifetime update..

Click on the link and follow the directions....ie, enter your serial# and register as the owner of the unit.

2010 Maps

I'm downloading right now - it's taking forever. I had to eMail tech support to provide access to the free update (I bought on 3/18) and they wanted my sales receipt even though my nuvi was registered and it showed date of first use on the garmin site. I would suggest that anyone who thinks they might be eligible to contact tech support as the free update does not appear to be automatic.

Big File

DaveR849 wrote:

I have 1.5Mbs dsl line and it took about an hour and a half to load and then another half hour to load on to the gps unit. If i remember correctly the file is 1.3 gigabites. Have fun

The map file is the same. So, what information gets displayed is a function of the particular model.

Beware, I have a 755T and the download of the 2010 maps erased all of the 3D and junction views on my Garmin. Tech support is aware of the problem and are correcting it. The new version should be available in a few weeks.

If you're within your 60 day time frame, you might want to just email and ask them about the update, it doesn't hurt, I know I did and got the 2010b update, even thou on my Garmin page it won't give me the update to the new map. I purchase mine about 1 month ago.

Credit Where Credit Is Due

While I have complained loudly about Garmins lack of quality control I have to give them credit where it is due. I just registared the replacement for the 765 I bought in Oct and Garmin honored the Nu-Maps Guarantee for the replacement unit and I got the 2010 update for free

Updated 750 Maps But Kept Old Firmware

With my nuMaps Lifetime I downloaded the 2010 map file yesterday for my Nuvi 750. Took about 50 minutes. I have firmware 3.0 on the Nuvi. The map update process FORCES a firmware update to the latest firmware (currently 4.6). Since I wanted to keep 3.0 (to avoid the firmware issues that some of the 4.x units have experienced), before AND after following the instructions to disconnect the Nuvi from the PC, reboot and connect it again, I tricked (using previous information found in this forum) the software into thinking I already had the latest firmware by using notepad to change “300” to “460” in the file GarminDevice.xml in the Nuvi’s Garmin directory. I also deleted the actual 460 update file GUPDATE.GCD the software had just written into the same directory. You need to do this BEFORE the disconnect to prevent the Nuvi from updating the firmware when it is rebooted and you need to do it again AFTER reconnecting (BUT before pressing “NEXT”) since the map update software won’t let you proceed unless it sees “460” in GarminDevice.xml (the Nuvi rewrites this file upon each reboot so “300” was back again) and is, therefore, satisfied that the firmware update has taken place.

After the new maps were loaded to the Nuvi, I did a hard reset and let the Nuvi acquire new satellite information (this usually takes care of any lag problems etc that may occur after such updates). Everything works great and I can already see several changes made to the maps.

No.

You will need to purchase a separate one for each unit you wish to update.

Paid Vs. Unpaid

Think of it as paid for maps are unlocked maps (legal), and unpaid maps are locked maps (illegal). When you pay for your maps, it includes an unlock code. Without the unlock code, you have the map file, but you can't access them.

Well, really it means that the maps either use or don't use unlock codes. And if the maps use unlock codes, that you have or don't have a valid, unused unlock code for the maps for your GPS unit.

Some maps, such as the US Topo maps, do not use unlock codes.

Others, such as the City Navigator maps or the UK Topo maps or the BlueChart products, do use unlock codes.

Also, there are user created maps that typically do not use unlock codes and do not need to be unlocked to the GPS unit.

For maps that use unlock codes, you must have a VALID, UNUSED unlock code for that maps for EACH unit onto which you wish to unlock the maps. Unlock codes are consumable items and may not be transferred to another GPS unit (with the possible exception if the unit is replaced under warranty).

Ok, thanks for the

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

I am well aware of the dating of the GPS based on sat acquisition.

I opened the box, locked on to the sats and registered it all in about 15 minutes time on the same day... so I was well within the 60 days, but when I was offered the 2009.11 map and did not dload (accept/use/etc.) it I missed out on the 2009.11 AND the 2010.

But the comment that was made was "Seems like I should have not registered until the 2010 map came out... sheesh, Garmin is determined to make liars out of us with some of the silly rules!" and my response to the fact that waiting to register wouldn't make any difference.

I don't think I was assuming anything.

Have you looked on your My Garmin Page to see if the 209.10 download might be there? After reading your post I went back and looked to see if my 209.10 was still there for re-download and it was there with the 2010.10 download.Once signed in click manage maps and download, look for 209.10 maps and click details under it.Scroll down to see if by some chance it may be there. If not call Garmin they may let you have the one you let pass by.

Not pleased...

I purchased my Nuvi 760 about 3 weeks ago, and knew Garmin only allowed for one map update, and that it had to be within 60 days of registration, but since I had no clue 2010 was due out I loaded 2009.1, which was the latest at the time.

Guys on another site said to call Garmin and that they would make it all better, but they did not. I called twice - same answer: You are allowed ONE update in that 60 day window. I was asked would I like to buy lifetime updates, but was none to pleased so I declined. So it was no go for me on talking them into getting the 2010 update. I literally updated my unit 7 days ago, to the older set. sad

Why doesn't Garmin change the policy to say you can update as many times as you want in that 60 day window? As it stands now, the smartest thing to do (which I didn't) would have been to wait until day 59 and grab whatever the latest product was.

Honestly I am not in a big city, so I doubt the local roads change much, but I was suprised to find some major roads that have been there for a couple of years were not in the original 2009 mapset. surprised

If anyone else in my situation had better luck convincing support, please share!

.

The changes in the quarterly map update are likely to be much fewer than the changes would have been with the yearly update.

So, think of it this way, you got an updated map for free. It was the most updated map available at the time and it had only been released in January 2009.

Had you purchased a similar unit a year ago, you possibly would not have gotten any update for free. Or at best, you would have gotten the yearly update which the same situation you are in now.

So either way, you are ahead of the game.

785T 2010 Map Update

I just received my 785T but am a little reluctant to download the 2010 map as people have reported losing 3-D building and junction view. Mine is working now without problems. Has anyone download the 2010 map to the 785T? Also do you think there will be a new update to the 2010 map in 60 days would it be worth waiting?

still under 60 days

I bought mine on April 1 and updated does that mean I can not get the 2010? Do I have to take it back and purchase a new device still under the costo rules in order to receive the new maps?

A, B and C?

Ok so now there are A, B and C maps, how do I tell which one I got?

--
Garmin c330 w/ 2011 maps

.

The below info is not official, just gathered from personal experience & what others have posted here. You can tell which version you have by the name of the downloaded setup file. If you don't have the setup file any longer, I would have no idea which version you would have. Supposedly, the maps are exactly the same with the exception of the different Junction View file that was corrected in the 2010B release.

Garmin_RMU_CNNANT2010.exe:
Initial release (no "A" version was ever released)

Garmin_RMU_CNNANT2010B.exe:
Corrects the broken Junction View of the initial release by supplying a new Junction View file.

Garmin_RMU_CNNANT2010C.exe:
Low-memory unit fix; setup now correctly ID's low-memory nuvis and gives the option install smaller mapsets to the unit rather than simply abort and leave the unit "mapless"

You have 60 days from the date the unit first acquires a satellite lock, so January to April or May is long pas the window.

still under 60 days

I received the email below yesterday, however I can still only download the 2009, just called and they said nope but maybe the person who sent the email got approval. I'll post an update if I get one but for me I just upgraded thru Costco to the 880 and will be taking the 780 back. I have to thank this forum because it prompted me to check if Costco had the newer model yet. Should I ask if there will be another update soon should I wait to update the 880 now?

I have the c330 w/ 2010 maps... You have to get a 2GB SD memory card and install the new maps on it as the unit itself will not allow for the updated maps to work. I say 2GB because the maps themselves for the entire US is around 1.2GB and too big for a 1GB or smaller SD card, or the unit itself which only has 1GB of built in memory.

I don't know if this applies to the C330 but it does with the nuvi line. If the unit is a limited memory nuvi (like the original nuvi 200 which was a 1 GB unit and the "Lower 48 States" mapset), the map setup will allow the transfer of limited area mapsets that are pre-generated to fit on a 1 GB unit. Those pre-generated limited area mapsets are:

1. Canada + Border States (Part Number 006-D0780-04)
2. Lower 49 States + PR (Part Number 006-D0783-04)
3. East (Part Number 006-D1119-02)
4. West (Part Number 006-D1120-02)
5. Lower 49 States + PR NE (Part Number 006-D1370-01)
6. Lower 49 States + PR NW (Part Number 006-D1371-01)
7. Lower 49 States + PR SE (Part Number 006-D1372-01)
8. Lower 49 States + PR SW (Part Number 006-D1373-01)

And just to be complete, the full mapset:
9. ALL (Part Number 006-D0322-05)

Data was obtained from the the extracted contents of Garmin_RMU_CNNANT2010B.exe in the IMG folder
