know this is a garmin area but i got an email from amazon (signed up for daily deals) that tom tom is offering some of their units with lifetime map updates . dont own a tom tom but maybe this will be the start of something from garmin ? who knows?

I am considering to buy a Tomtom too
I used a Tomtom two years ago. Typed an address, followed the direction, then the GPS told me I had arrived the destination while I was still driving on a freeway bridge. It turned out the destination is indeed just under the bridge. But the GPS should guide me to exit the freeway then go to the destination. But it failed to do that. It just told me to stop on the bridge. Hope this has been fixed.

Actually Costco has been selling the Garmin nuvi 765T bundled with the lifetime map subscription for the past few weeks ($249). You will find it if you search the Costco site.
