CN NA NT 2010.10 & Junction View...broken? *FIXED*

I believe that the 2010.10 map update has broken Junction View on the 7x5 (at least on my end). Note: Junction View is referring to the brief photo-realistic view of the upcoming junction on your route & NOT the Lane Assist arrows at the upper left of the map screen.

I have two different test areas here in SoCal and neither of them work after the 2010.10 update. If revert back to the previous 2009.11 maps and associated Junction View files, everything works as it did before the update.

I've even tried using the previous 2009.11 Junction View file renamed to the current name (x:/Garmin/JCV/CNNA2010_10.JCV) with no luck. My next test will be to try the original 2009 Junction View file that came pre-installed on the unit & renamed to match the new.

Is anyone running 2010.10 and still getting the Junction View display?

werskine...

Can you try this small route in simulation mode to verify that it works on your unit?

Here is one area where I am NOT seeing the Junction View after the 2010.10 update:

Start point: N34 04.052 W117 58.954
End point: N34 03.606 W118 00.085

There should be two different Junction Views in this route.

You can create two favorites with the start point being 1/2 mile from the known junction *on the roadway* and the end point being 1/2 mile after the junction *on the roadway*. Then simulate the route.

1.Turn GPS simulation on (Tools>Settings>System>)
2.Find the start point favorite, select it.
3.Hit the Map button, hit Set Loc. button
4.Hit the Back button twice
5.Select the end point favorite, hit Go and simulate driving the route.

.

I've heard from two other users with 7x5 units over gpspassion who have both tried the coordinates/route that I posted and they are NOT getting any of the two junction views. To verify (again for my own sake), I just reloaded my 2009.11 maps and using those maps, there are indeed two verified junction views.

I can verify his coordinates do not show me any Junction Views as well as going to one I know exists and it does not show. I emailed Support via their website, hope others do too. I do not have a more direct way to notify them.

I can verify DorkusNimrod's coordinates do show me the (2) Junction Views specified.

I finally got a chance to revert back to the 2009.11 maps with their Junction View file. Just as reported, the coordinates given do give you two Junction views, but the 2010 update does not with it's Junction View file.

Although I played around using the 2009 Junction file,(as some others have) first with the original file name, then renaming it to the new 2010 Junction View file name, in neither case was there a Junction view with the updated maps. Could it be as simple as the the file name the new maps are looking for is not the file name given to the new Junction File? Hopefully Garmin will address this next week. I have reverted to the 2009.11 maps for now because I have come to like the Junction View.

Dorkus...

Although i have not tried your coords, I have not had any issues in the Providence/Boston area. In fact I think there are a couple of additional JV locations. Now if Navteq would only switch the intersection of 95 and 195 from left to right, all would be well in the world...

craig470,
Can you give me the coordinates or the intersections where you are getting Junction Views with the 2010 update? Thanks.

oops

I guess I got my days mixed up as when I installed the maps. Junction View is not working on mine either. I noticed that the map version (in map info) does not list as 3D+JCV as the 2009 version did. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. At least they split the maps again...

Hey, thanks for the feedback. With all the updates it is hard to keep track of what is working when, lol.

I have a feeling it is not working for anyone with the latest map update, so hopefully that means a fix is not too far off from Garmin.

No JV's in St. Louis with 2010 maps

I simulated a route thru St. Louis that I drove in Feb. (755T) that had several instances of Junction View. With 2010 maps ... no Junction Views on this route, but at least the lane assists still seemed to be working. I imagine Garmin CS will get an ear full when they reopen next week. It will be interesting to see how they explain / respond to this bug.

Minneapolis

I just attempted a route thru Minneapolis that I know has a number of junction views. NO go, so I also sent Garmin support a note.

Garmin Response

Dear Will,

This is a minor glitch that has been caused by the mapping update, and our software engineers are currently working on an update to cure this issue.

I would recommend checking the WebUpdater periodically over the next couple of weeks for the release of said update.

Junction view BROKEN

From Garmin:

Please be aware that the Lane Assist Feature disappears from 7x5 and 8x5 units when the maps are updated to 2010. Engineering has been notified and we hope to have a resolution soon.

This will undoubtedly affect junction view as well, and resolution soon means in the next month. Just thought you'd like it from the horses mouth.

Thank you for contacting

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I do apologize for the inconvenience. This is a problem being reported with the 2010 update and our technicians are aware of it. We should have a fix very shortly through the WebUpdater program.

@ hautedawg

What is the correct term for the actual photo-realistic view of the junction anyways? Junction View or Lane Assist? I always thought Lane Assist was the guidance arrows on the map screen while the Junction View was the photo-realistic view (jpg/bitmap/whatever) of the junction itself...any comment on this?

Yep--- lane assist left top

Yep--- lane assist left top corner shows arrows greyed or lighted to show where you are supposed to be. Not affected by 1010 update. Junction View shows full screen the actual view of the split coming up including what the overhead signs will say, and where you are supposed to be...slighly affected by the 1010 update lol as in disabled.

@tampa8

I was assuming the terminology that I used (and that you also used above) was correct as it does seem logical. I was wondering what Garmin's stance was on the terminology since hautedawg was/is associated with Garmin.

The above post from hautedawn seems to imply though that it's the other way around since the Lane Assist directional arrows are not broken (AFAIK), only the junction view itself. Just wondering...

I just assumed the Garmin person misspoke -er- miswrote. In any case it's not working whatever it is called. But I suppose now do we have to hope they are not trying to fix the lane assist instead of the Junction view?.....

the same thing here-No junction view anymore...

There is an apparent fix from Garmin.

Go to the support link below:

In the search box, enter the following:
How do I restore Lane Assist for my nuvi 765t

Select the first search result which will provide a link to the updated Junction View file.

EDIT: First download attempt resulted in a corrupted zip file...

they will probably obsolete your unit, before working out the fix. It seems to be the norm lately, then take their time with a fix.

They are blaming the map update, Hmmm strange I bet it's a firmware (algorithms) that fix it.

I'd wait for a different file to be posted since the one there now is corrupt. At least it's not a huge download like the maps were...

Chalk this up as yet another borked map update from Garmin...two downloadable updates so far with both of them having issues...I dread to think about the next "update". Maybe nuMaps Lifetime won't be all it's cracked up to be if it requires users to download multiple times (overloaded servers), download fixes to the update, download fixes to the fixed update, download fixes to the GPS unit, etc, etc...shock

Corrupt and dated.

Take a look at that file - the date on the .jcv in the archive is March 20th. Think it's even the proper file they've tried to post when it's nearly a month old?

File updated

The attachment on the Garmin site is now a .JCV file rather than a .zip and it's just over 40Mb in size. Time to try again!

.

Still no-go. Renamed to .ZIP, renamed to .RAR...it's too small to be an uncompressed Junction View file (38 MB). Geez, you'd think Garmin would be able to create and verify a zip archive, upload that file to their server, then download and verify that file on the server before posting it...I guess not. shock

Have you actually tested it? Does it work with my test from above? The "new" file that myself & others downloaded does not work either. And it's not in a compressed format. Why they first posted it as a zip archive is beyond comprehension.

Does Garmin have no shame? A major company and this is what we get? I get that sometimes an update does unexpected things. I only partly get when you don't catch them, but I do not get at all posting a fix that is broken or posted wrong meant to fix the original problem....

.

Guess I'll be sticking with my 750 and 2008 maps for a while. Why should I "upgrade" and deal with all the hassles. I'm done being a beta tester for Garmin.

Maybe if folks stopped purchasing new Garmin models then Garmin would rethink their current policy of pushing out untested crap at a huge markup.
