City Navigator 2010 North America Now Available

According to another forum, the City Navigator NT 2010 maps are now available for download (file name Garmin_RMU_CNNANT2010.exe).

I just got a 760 today, so I'll be downloading the new map later tonight and reporting back.

EDIT: Looks like chewbacca was the first to report the new maps in the 2009 MAP UPDATES discussion at 00:48 this a.m.

NA 2010 update

I purchased a 205w two days ago. Registered and downloaded the NA 2010 yesterday. I couldn't get it to work. When it loaded the maps I got the message about not finding and routed maps. Then I was getting the message about the maps not being unlocked. This morning I redownloaded the update and it works. Looks like that first version they put out was the problem. WHEW! I thought I screwed it up somehow!

did the install from that first download file and it installed

I downloaded on the morning of the 8th when the maps were first released and did the install from that first download file and it installed fine using that file once they had the authentification server working.

There might have been a little hiccup that occured the first time you installed that caused your problem.

City Navigator 2010 map update

I bought the lifetime map updates about 2 months ago and I just downloaded and installed the City Navigator 2010 North America update on my Nuvi 780 on Friday. Frankly, I'm not impressed. Observations:

1. I went driving in the Texas Hill Country yesterday to look at wildflowers with my Nuvi + 2010 map uploaded. For no apparent reason, Independence, TX is not longer a recognized city. I could have sworn I navigated there on the 2009 CN_NA map. What's up with that? (No, it didn't become a ghost town since last year.)

2. Nuvi got all confused at I-10 and TX-99 exit. There's a long feeder road exit onto TX-99 from I-10 in west Houston. Nuvi got all confused and thought I was continuing on I-10 when I had actually exited the interstate. It then re-calculated the route and told me to exit something like 5 miles down I-10. I knew better but thought "really dumb"!

3. Near my house in Richmond, TX, Nuvi routed me off the main road (TX-99) onto two side roads with stop signs and a t-junction and then back onto TX-99. (I was going north to south.) This was really bizarre since I was going through on TX-99, the main road, and there was no construction, traffic or other reason that the Nuvi should have navigated me off TX-99. I have "fastest time" set on navigation and I am dead certain the way it sent me was neither shortest distance nor fastest time. It did not route me this way on the 2009 CN_NA map. Wacky!

That's the info I've been looking for.
Thanks

Independence Texas

Independence Texas is not in the 2009 maps. I was unable to try the routes you mention without more info, but I would be sure you have reset the unit since the download. Feeder roads are tricky because the GPS can only get an approximate of where you are, not an exact location. So feeder roads that closely parallel the road you left can be seen as you still being on the original road.

Am I eligible for the 2010 update?

I purchased my 255W on Feb 26 of this year. First satellite acquired on Feb 28. Unit came with 2009 maps, when I registered on mygarmin.com the 2009.1 update was available to me.

Should the 2010 map be available for free to me becuase it has been released within 60 days, or is that a one shot deal?

Thanks,

Success - 2010 Maps Installed On 660!

How would we find out if the 2010 will fit on the 660?

One brave user needs to be first and report back to the rest of us. Are you volunteering? mrgreen

OK, so I decided to be the "brave user" and install the 2010 map update on my 660. It updated without a single problem.

Before the upgrade, with the 2008 map installed, there was 540Mb of free space on the 660. After the install, there was 428Mb of free space. So the 2010 map is a little bigger, but I was able to install it without having to delete any files.

1. The download took 28 min. over my 10Mb internet connection.

2. Using the free 7-Zip program, I extracted the files in the rar file to an empty work folder which took 7 min.

3. Finally, I ran the Setup.exe file from the \Windows sub-folder where I extracted the contents of the rar file. It took 1 hr, 43 min. to load them onto the 660.

As others have mentioned, I also got version 6.15.5 of MapSource installed on my PC. Not having MapSource prior to this, I have some playing around to do so I can learn what it does and how to use it.

I do have one question for you MapSource gurus out there - with the downloaded file, is there any way I can use it to install MapSource (with the unlocked maps) on a second PC (laptop), or does Garmin not allow that?

ONE Free update, just as Garmin describes. And you have 60 days in which to do it.

works on 6xx

looked at the gmapsupp.img file sizes...

1124MB 2010.1NT
1090MB 2009.1NT

so if you have 34MB of free space it will fit.

install MapSource (with the unlocked maps) on a second PC

Just copy the map file to the laptop and connect the GPs and run the install file. After it has checked the GPS and starts to install the maps on the computer you can then unplug the GPS. It will give notice that it cannot find the GPS after it completes the install on the computer. Just hit cancel. The laptop will now have MapSource and the latest maps. I did this on all three of my computers. Every time you do a map upgrade it will add the new map but will also retain the old ones and you can switch map versions at any time.

EULA Allows Only One Copy of Mapsource

Just copy the map file to the laptop and connect the GPs and run the install file.

The terms of the Mapsource end-user agreement were changed with the City Navigator 2009 map update to allow only one copy of Mapsource per user licence.

For more details see the discussion starting with Motorcycle Mama's post from May 12 at 9:48pm in this thread:

The EULAs for MapSource and the CNNANT 2010.10 map state:

2. YOU MAY:

(a) install and use one copy of the Software on a single computer or network for personal use of the Software in accordance with this License Agreement. This copy is to be used by only a single user at a time. If you wish to use the Software for more users, you will need an additional license for each user.

CNNANT 2010.10 changes from 2009 (Toronto)

I've been wandering around the new map update using Mapsource and have noted the following changes for the Toronto/GTA region:

    - Toronto GTA street updates       (Milton,Brampton,Woodbridge,Vaughan,
      Markham.Newmarket,Pickering)
    - Brampton Hwy 410 extension to Mayfield road added
    - Changes to POIs (e.g. Canadian Costcos added)

Another nice find is that large metros are now selectable to build Map Sets in Mapsource. Here's a partial list:

  Canada
    Hamilton, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec, Toronto

  U.S.A.
Atlanta, Bay Area (SF,Oakland,San Jose), Boston, Chicago,
Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Honolulu, Las Vegas,

New MapSource v6.15.5

rjrsw wrote:

I noticed that during the map update that a new 6.15.5 version of MapSource is installed. I wonder what has been added above the 6.15.4 version.

The newest version available on Garmin's site is still 6.15.4 and the change history doesn't list the new version.

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

Hmmm.. now that is interesting. The Garmin website still only shows 6.15.4.

Anyone have the scoop on this new 6.15.5 ?

I only see the 2009 map

The only reference I see is to the 2009 map. I did find a place last night that might have been the 2010 map but it was hard to know for sure. Anyone know the part number that is 2010 for sure? I wonder why it's so hard to work around their website.

Looks like I am out of luck

Looks like I am out of luck so far on the 2010 update. Registered (and purchased) Feb 22, 2009 and it only offered me the 2009.11 updates, I declined the update and now no 2010 as I had my "one free update" whether or not I took it that's it.

Seems like I should have not registered until the 2010 map came out... sheesh, Garmin is determined to make liars out of us with some of the silly rules!

.

No matter when you registered, the update would have been based upon the date that the unit first acquired a satellite lock.

I got the update to work

I got the update to work since the servers weren't as busy. I had to laugh. The road to the Assisted Living place my mom's in did not have the street name listed on the 2009. It is listed on the 2010, so that part was good. So, I tried plugging in the address to her place and my 760 said to turn left a few streets before the street I have always taken. I didn't think it was correct, but I said, "What the heck". The final turn it had me take was the street my mom's place is on, but it isn't cut through. The street had a barrier and about 100 yards of field. No cut through, just as I thought. Oh well, it was fun trying. It isn't the 760's fault. Just NavTec must have thought it was cut through.

Re: error

bobshort1 wrote:

When you find stuff like that, you really should go to Garmin and report it. They have a page for reporting map errors.

Many Rescue Squads and other emergency services use a GPS now. That error could cost someone their life or loss of property.

No New maps showing

Hi, not that I've decided yet whether to purchase the new map (still running with CNNA NT 2009.10 3DB+JV), I see no option to even select the 2010 map. For available map updates I get - Available Map Updates -
No update available. If I go to the download maps section - again nothing is listed except for the product key for the 2009 map. Anybody else not seeing the 2010 maps listed for download?

Thanks

Are you clicking on myMaps and then selecting "Purchase More Maps"? Then click on "Buy a Map Update"?

Alternately, click on myMaps, then click on "Details" under the map product. Then click on "Buy Download".

This is my problem

It will be a while before i

It will be a while before i pay garmin for maps again. Basically i feel my last update (14 months after purchase 2009 maps) was a complete waste of money. Still missing restaurants that have been around for years.. still has road probs. Obviously they are way behind, so by 2011, they may be current with the present. I can't see it as a real benefit tbh, mostly a money pit at this point. POI has been worth more to me than paying garmin more money for a bs update.

still missing

the road that has been in gillette , wy for 1.5 years, still not appeared in nt 2010.

Just BUY an upgrade DVD

Just buy the upgrade DVD when they become available. It will have a sticker with the activation code on the jewel case. You don't have to register it until you actually install it. That's what I did last year. Couldn't have been easier.
