'HOTFIX"

I've been looking at a couple of diffrent models, the 760 and the 755t. And even though I don't travel all that much, I was still going to get the 755t because of the "lane assist" and because it has Hotfix. But after reading some of your posts, it appears that some of you think hotfix is more hype then help. Let me ask you this.. does hotfix help you "hook up" to the satellites that much faster than a model that dosn't have it, like the 760. Never having owned a gps before I don't know what is reasonable to expect as far as locking on a satellite, with or without hot fix. Is there that much difference in the time it takes to lock in on a satellite lock between the 760 and the 755t? Does hotfix have any other benefit?

My thoughts

I don't know if you are going to see that much of a difference between the 760 and the 755t. I see a big difference in my 760 compared to my older streetpilots (c330 and c550/c580). They can take up to a minute if cold booted. I almost always have the 760 in 30 seconds or less on a cold boot. You should be looking more at price and features.

Your mileage may be different and I make no warranties or guarantees with my thoughts.

If I am not wrong, I think

If I am not wrong, I think both models Nuvi 760 and Nuvi 755T have hotfix chip in them. I don't think hotfix makes any big difference. Nuvi 755T is missing Bluetooth but has Lane Assist.

There is a BIG difference in

There is a BIG difference in how fast the satellites are obtained from my 750 to my 765T. While it is a great improvement, the 750/760/ can be had for a great price because they have been discontinued. As mentioned see what features are important to you, and be sure you understand what a feature actually does. I see posts from people who regret not buying the higher model because they did not understand or see for themselves what a particular feature does.

755T

Stay away from the 755T I had one, Garmin has a software issue with this unit it was unfixable I returned it and went back ta a 760 NUVI

What was the issue?

Can you added a little more info on the problem? I was looking at the reviews on other sites an there was no mention of software issues.

software issues

this is the first that I have heard of software issues with the 775t. Can you elaborate.

Bluetooth

Both the 760 and 755T have Hotfix active

Well, I'm not sure that

Well, I'm not sure that comment is fair to a new buyer. I read many forums, at this time, I am not reading problems with the 705 series as there were at introduction. In fact, now with the newest OS and voice upgrades, I can honestly say they are very stable units. My 765T certainly now is also.

In addition, I have the latest updates on our 760, so if it has the hotfix update (as I know Garmin said it would have) it still is not as quick as my 765T.

Short trips?

Do you make a lot of short trips in unfamiliar territory where instant acquisition of satellites is necessary? My GPS can take up to 2 minutes to locate me, but I'm usually on a road that I know and it routes me from where I am when it locks onto the satellites to my destination.

nuvi 255w vs. streetpilot 330

The one really glaring difference is how fast you can start to navigate with 255w. When I back out of my garage and before I get to the street, and it's a short driveway, I am ready to navigate. It is amazing how fast it is. The streetpilot 330 would take until I was 4 or 5 blocks from my house before you could navigate.

I don't know if it is because of the "hotfix" or a faster processor, but I don't think any unit could be ready to navigate faster than the 255w, and if it did, it would be no advantage as far as I am concerned.
