GPS /Blackberry

Is it possible to integrate a Garmin GPS with a Blackberry curve so I can get GPS coordinates on my Blackberry. I know the Blackberry has GPS but it is another service you have to sign up for. I just wanted to integrate the two units together.

BB

Not that I'm aware of- the BlackBerry GPS, like most cell phones is taken from a chip inside the unit, so any software which will work with it will make API calls to the BB device itself using RIM's Application Programming Interface.

Who's your phone service provider?

Actually, the latest version of BB's firmware should allow the device's internal GPS to work with most 3rd party applications. Hook your Curve up to your computer, and go to blackberry.com/updates

I have an Alltel Curve - and use Garmin's Blackberry App on it, as well as gpsed, blackberry maps, and Google Maps for BB. Google maps is probably my least favorite.

You can't "integrate" a BB and a Garmin beyond bluetooth and using it as a hands-free device.

garmin.com/blackberry

for $79 plus the $45/month for internet access on your Blackberry you can sort of turn your Blackberry Storm into a Garmin device, get weather at blackberry.weatherbug.com and even play internet radio in stero at moodyio.fm

Of course you can get add a GXM30 to some Garmin devices and get a XM package of Radio, weather and traffic data for about $20/month or get a lifetime package for just a little more than the price of 3 years. I have this on my DNX8120 which also plays streaming radio from my Blackberry Storm via Bluetooth in stereo. It's worth it if you spend any kind of time in your car.

However, you can't hook interface your might be the Blaupunkt internet car radio. Check out this article http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/01/08/miroamer-and-blaupu... where they discuss navigation. I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing firmware updates to support internet functions.

I have tried to use my GPSr with my BB storm but never was able to get it to work. I use Trapster on the Storm which uses Live Maps and internal GPS to locate me on the road. It is interesting to hear Australian Karen telling me where to turn and seeing another map (without voice) as part of the navigation. I wish I knew a way to call the Nuvi map to the Storm.

No need to sign up any more for GPS

I have a Blackberry Storm which has its GPS unlocked and currently there are several apps besides VZNavigator which use GPS although this as far as I know does not include Google Maps. I understand this was a result of a lawsuit but don't know when and/or if earlier Blackberry models are being unlocked as well. I would recommend upgrading to the latest firmware update by going to http://www.blackberry.com/updates just to find out if that would unlock your GPS. Of course another option is to buy a GPS Puck.

You can use the Blackberry

You can use the Blackberry Storm with Google Map.

Make sure you set the GPS option to LOCATION ON from E911.

You can be Amazed!!

Actually www.amazegps.com is a free software for the BB. I have the curve 8330 from US Cellular and installed the Lifetime maps from Garmin. (Wished I had found Amazegps BEFORE I bought the software from Garmin) Works great, just seems to have two "rules of thumb"

1) You must have clear site of the sky.
2) not be moving

It seems to have lots of problems finding satellites if you are either not in clear view of the sky or are moving. But that means you need to stop and let it find the satellites, then it works like any other GPS.

.

Yeah, it's pretty good software. Won't work currently with the Verizon Curve.
