gathering POIs

I'm building lists of the sports arenas, shopping malls and plazas, large parks, hiking parks, festival locations, cultural centers, and amusement parks.

I think it'd be good to add restaurants, golf courses, and beauty spas for the area, but don't know a lot about which ones are of good quality.

I have added this to my list

I have added this to my list and will see about getting it up today.

Kyle, I got all of those

Kyle,
I got all of those files added for you. Let me know if you need any others;)

Miss Poi

FYI

Not sure if these locations will be helpful, but I created back in march this file for Phoenix attractions before my vacation:

I will get that one linked,

I will get that one linked, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Cactus League Ballparks

Kyle,

Just an idea - might be nice to have a file of all the Cactus League Ballparks for all our winter visitors.

From Chandler, Bernie

Got you covered!

This was my very first file I created for this web site. It has been updated once. Enjoy. The link is listed below.

i would love to help

i know the valleys golf courses well if that helps. i figure u already have most things covered but if i can help let me know. thanks

Would it be possible??

Since this is the 'Valley of the Sun' where a lot of Snowbirds (commonly known as 'Old Farts') end up in the winter, would it be possible to have a listing of RV Parks/Resorts in the Phoenix area? ... maybe you already do!

I found some stuff in this file http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4082 and here too

You may want to call ahead and see if they take RV's.

Miss Poi

Thanks, Miss POI

Thanks, Miss POI. I guess I was referring more to what is considered 'resorts' where a person can pull in, set up, and stay for the winter months. (Many County, State, and Federal parks have a max time limit.)

The Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe areas are loaded with Parks catering to 'Seniors' with a minimum age limit. Since that area is a 'hot bed' for Winter visitors, I would think a listing of all these parks would be benificial to many.

Thanks again, Miss POI.

I agree, anyone out there

I agree, anyone out there want to do the research and build a database for those sun searchers out in AZ?

Error in Phoenix - Attractions.csv

File Phoenix - Attractions.csv contains an error for the following attraction:

-111.9281
33.3044
Rawhide Western Town and Steakhouse

Wild Horse Pass 5700 West North Loop Road, Chandler, AZ 85226 (480) 502-5600

If you tell the GPS to take you there it takes you elsewhere, not even close to

5700 West North Loop Road,
Chandler, AZ 85226 (480) 502-5600

It seems that the latitude and altitude coordinates are incorrect. The correct ones are:

-111.9871
33.2709

There doesn't seem to be much activity on this project, so I thought I'd ask if you are still looking for this type of POI information, because I might be able to help. Might take a few weeks, though.

Yes, but .....

Even though we now have a semi-permanent spot in Mesa, I'd still help work on it ... but it would have to wait until we head back south in the fall.

Later may be better

Give a holler when you get back to the Valley. This may actually work out better, as it appears this is going to be stickier to put together than I first anticipated.

Would like to contribute to Metro Phoenix project

How can I participate and get poi files to you?

I currently have one for Pure Fitness gyms and Arizona Federal Credit Union.

Phoenix, AZ - Attractions

The Sunset Crater parking lot is not in downtown Phoenix. The proper coordinates are:
-111.51878356933594 35.36336597876528

all fixed

I just fixed this, it looks like it was just a type where the coordinates from the line above it got copy and pasted instead of the correct ones. Thanks for help with that change

Miss POI

Fore.....

Anyone maintaining the golf course POIs? I downloaded the file and found several notable south valley courses not listed and duplicates of others. I'm willing to make additions and red-line the existing list if there's interest.

Send me the details and I

Send me the details and I will make sure they get corrected.

Miss POI

My guess is that red light

My guess is that red light cameras and permanent speed cameras are a matter of public record. There are a lot of cameras operating out of mocavble vans esp on the highways and in scottsdale.

I made myself a note to inquire of the state dept of transportation for the geo cordinates.

Is anyone going to update

Is anyone going to update the Cactus League Ballpark POI? 2 new parks opening this year. One in Glendale and one in Goodyear.

Cactus League Ballparks

Just downloaded the list of parks. Great! Now we need to get the new goodyear park on the list.

Arizona Scenic ByWays

Shouldn't Arizona Scenic ByWays http://www.poi-factory.com/node/2235 be part of this project as well?

Is it still maintained? (Last updated 03/20/2007)

This project covers just the Metro area for Phoenix, is this file covering all of AZ or just the Phoenix metro area?

Miss POI

A mix bag

miss poi wrote:

Miss POI

The Phoenix AZ Project is a bit of a mix bag: At the beginning, I thought indeed it was only the Phoenix metro area (as the name implies), but there are many POIs from all over Arizona (and even other States) in files like Arizona Federal Credit Union, Chipotle Mexican Grill - Arizona and Southern California, Phoenix & Tuscon AZ Free Wifi, or Phoenix, AZ - Attractions.

If the goal is really to have only Metro area POIs in these files, they should be cleaned up and other POI files with the sites outside the Metro area created and maybe grouped in an "Arizona" project. I'd be glad to participate to this effort.

Wherever should they go

I'm confused and somewhat frustrated. There are some significant POI that need to be added somewhere but at this point, I don't know where because I don't understand the "location" rule for the different files. I proposed the following recently:

-110.84420800209045 32.581544054532934 Biosphere 2 32540 S Biosphere Rd Oracle AZ 85623 - (520) 838-6200
-112.09655284881592 33.4694683322907 Veterans Memorial Coliseum 1826 W McDowell Rd Phoenix AZ - (602) 252-6771
-112.26284980773926 33.527443487057944 University of Phoenix Stadium 1 W Cardinals Way Glendale AZ - (623) 433-7100

Some already here

jale,

Can't help with the location of the Biosphere POI but I do know it doesn't belong in the Phoenix Area project. I wonder if there a POI folder for science releated items.

Both the Coliseum and UPS stadium are located in the Phoenix, AZ Sports Arenas location.

Cactus league ball parks.

Appreciate the updates for Glendale and Goodyear. I'll make good use of them

Uploading new content

Out of curiosity - is there an easy way to add on content?

I've been poking around - as as I am getting some of the Phoenix, AZ POI files, I've also been going through and creating icon files for some.

I also have a 55/65 speed limit POI file + icons for all of our freeway camera's. (But, these may be covered already in the red light + speed camera files on the site)

Many thanks for the updated Cactus League POI file. I used it extensively last week and they all got us right there.

We quickly learned that the drive times for night games were very optimistic, given the horrific traffic at rush hour, but that's the GPSr's fault, not yours. Terrific file, and appreciated the update for Goodyear.

I just stumbled across this

I just stumbled across this topic and thread. Just a note for whoever did the Arizona Federal Credit Union POI's, they are consolidating some branches next month so it will need to be updated. You can go to their website, www.azfcu.org, to get the info.
