NUvi 660 question: does the icon file that goes with the POI location file have to be the exact same file name to work properly

Loading custom POI files from this site along with icon and sound files.
1. Do all three have to have the exact same file name in order to work?
2. How do i link them to each other once loaded or is it automatic?

Thanks.

Yes, they need to be the same name (except for extension). POI Loader will do all the linking for you. The files you downloaded belong in the same folder on your computer -- you will then point POI Loader to that folder as the source.

Downloading POI

1. yes, with the exception of the extension a POI, Icon, and sound file all have to have the exact same name. I doesn't hurt to also insure this includes the same case for the letters.

2. POI loader handles the linking.

3. The next answer is: SOX.EXE.

(Edit) Bent Biker is also correct.

The 660 will use MP3 files, so SOX.EXE should not be necessary.

Told YA!

Thanks MM, but it is required for a great many that don't do MP3 and is becoming almost standard for those that use the MP3 capability to play songs. Converting an alert to .WAV and loading it with SOX in the \Garmin folder on the PC keeps the MP3 from loosing its place.

At least that's what's reported - my 200 requires SOX and WAV files

You lost me.

I use the MP3 files since my unit has an MP3 player and can use MP3 files without SOX.EXE. And since the OP has a 660 and can use MP3 files, SOX.EXE should not be necessary.

Why would SOX.EXE be becoming almost a standard for those that use the MP3 capablity?

SOX on a 660

Several have posted about custom alerts causing MP3 songs to skip and have other issues when a custom alert is given. The reports also state that converting the alert to WAV and using SOX lets the song be interrupted and then resume when the alert is done. My 200 only uses WAV, so I can't confirm.

Firmware Bug

Sounds like they are talking about the mp3 player skipping bug. Since my 660 has that problem and I use the mp3 player to play music, I have reverted to only loading alert files in wav format which requires I have SOX.EXE for POI Loader.

Tampa, FL - Garmin nüvi 660 (Software Ver 4.90), 2021.20 CN NA NT maps | Magellan Meridian Gold

that is correct

at least with my 765T

I have to use wav files and SOX for the alerts, if I want the mp3 player to work properly
