I can also post you some greasy spoon type places if you like, but these places are all definitely small / local places, super special in some way, have better food, and a reasonably large selection of breakfast food. I even kept out some foodie-type places for that last one, e.g. Zingerman's in Ann Arbor is a great place with great food but not much breakfast selection.

Many thanks to http://www.mrbreakfast.com/ for helping me remember some. Also, I recently had breakfast at a First Watch ( http://www.firstwatch.com/ ) and was satisfied but since it appears to be a larger chain I don't know if it's what you're looking for. Kind of like Original House of Pancakes which already has its own file, or of course the venerable Waffle House (or IHOP I suppose if we're going to go downhill).

In eastern Canada I recommend Chez Cora which has its own file. My experiences there have been hit-or-miss more to the west, but the ones in Montreal are excellent.
