AAA Triptiks

anyone here a AAA member?

I just joined this week, and yesterday, I emailed them asking if it was possible to download TripTiks to a GPS, similar to the way you can download routes and waypoints from Mapquest.

they replied that AAA has an exclusive agreement with Magellan.

any Magellan owners tried that?

I have a Garmin nuvi 765T, and was wondering if it is possible to convert whatever format the TripTik is in, to something readable by my nuvi?

Triptiks

I have a suggestion. Get the Triptik and then use the various way point from there and then create your "Triptik" route on a GPS of your choice.

No "Hacking" involved there!

Though I find the Triptiks do not use any route I would want to use.

I agree with bsp131's

I agree with bsp131's comment. It seems Jim8650 was simply asking for information regarding TripTik version for Garmin. BobDee's comment came off kind of harsh and rude. The question sounded reasonable to me and could prove helpful to many of us AAA members as well.

AAA

I've been an AAA member since 1980 and pay my dues the same as a Magellan owner but the files aren't available to me which I think is BS. I even called their headquarters once and suggested that when a business advertizes in their Tour Books have them include GPS coordinates which would cost AAA nothing.

This was several years ago that I had that conversation and the person that they transferred me to that was in charge of that area told me the next batch of books they were coming out with would have that feature. So far it looks like I'll have a long white beard before that happens.

missing some points

It took me maybe two or three minutes to do the post so you must be real fast or think I am. There are several sites I could look up addresses on, but if I'm going to do that I might as well look the attractions up on the net or get them off POI factory and save paying AAA each year.

One thing that doesn't make your plan feasible for us is you don't know how we travel. We don't have any rigid route or schedule that we stick to other then the states we are going to pass through so I never know for sure where the next day will take us. Each night while in the motel I look in the tour book and find things we might enjoy seeing or doing in that area. So yes I could jot them down then jump on the net and get the coordinates but then as I said before, why would I need AAA.

I remember TripTiks in the

I remember TripTiks in the old days and read somewhere that AAA was poviding an online service for free. I was able to create my own TripTik and print it myself.

It did give the close in mini-maps. The map provided before printing was interactive and I could move the line (as in google maps) to modify the route. There was a drop down to include attractions and events.
