a Trip Planner App question (Garmin 25xx)

On my 2557, for work I often use my Trip Planner App to Save a route with via points that will take me to the destination of a customer taking certain preferred roads that may differ from the shortest or fastest. The problem is on a return trip, I haven't found a way to Reverse that course without creating a brand new Trip/route. I thought maybe using the Optimize Order would work (while at the original destination), starting with the closest point, but it seems to keep the original start and end points.

Has anyone figured out a way to do this, or can think of something to try? Its a major hassle sometimes especially when North and South lanes of major highways are involved, the prior Via points can't be used exactly. I like having my exact Route in the GPS even on return trips, for a pretty accurate ETA (with a little luck).

Move the waypoints

Have you tried opening the trip, going to Edit Destination and dragging each point to its reverse location. Start point becomes the end point. Second point becomes second last, etc.

its possible some points may not work perfectly. If a point was on the west side of a divided highway, on the first leg, it will be on the east side on the return trip. That could cause some grief, so choose your points carefully.

Edit Waypoints

Haven't tried that, it should work if I remembered for sure the reverse order. Sometimes the via points I pick on the Map are odd names. The divided highways give me the most grief, they'll cause a loop-back to reach the point in the other direction and what not. I was just experimenting and picked a point in the Median, it still was directional depending which lane it was slightly closer too.

use intersections

Where possible, I use road intersections. They tend to be bidirectional. Avoid using City, even for small towns and hamlets. The center of town might not be where you expect it to be.

I also find that you might have continue driving through a via point. It doesnt always plot the rest of route until you drive past.

Worked on reverse for trips

I've worked on reverse for a lot of trips and the above post was correct that stated as to where the waypoints are. I found that I had to make additional waypoints for the return trip and then add these and delete the ones that were not needed to take me on the same route.

Edit the Trip and reverse via points

will work (as you noted) if the vias are not on a divided highway or street. I have a 2557 also and have been forced to create via points on both sides of an Interstate highway to reverse the route/trip. Recently I have been using the Trip Planner feature of BaseCamp to create trips as well as their returns. Create a two day trip and then just drag and drop your vias for the outgoing leg into day 1. Arrange them in the order you like and a route/trip will be created. Now drag and drop your vias for the return leg into day 2 and arrange them in the proper order to create the return route/trip. Connect your 2557 to the computer and transfer the vias and routes. I think this is pretty slick. Try it.

Reversing a route:

Here is a post I wrote a while back on how to reverse a multipoint route:

This method was for the Custom Routes engine on the older nuvi models, but it works equally well with Trip Planner. In general, open the trip to edit, drag the original start point to the end, drag the original endpoint to the start, save the temporary route. Then open for edit again, Optimize Order and save.

As was mentioned, you may need to adjust some waypoints if they were on one way streets or divided highways.
