Red Light Camera Locations

I have loaded the red light poi to my Garmin Nuvi 350. Should I see icons on the screen where they are located? What will the unit do when I approach one of the locations?

Thanks for your help. John

Nuvi 250w Alerts

Does anyone know if the Nuvi 250w will accept the mp3 alert files?
I've tried to find that information, but I can't find confirmation... Does that mean that it can't? Please say it ain't so sad
I'd like to be able to customize my POI's without having the same "ding" for all of them. It would help not having to stare at the GPSr while tyring to drive...

look in the list in the red

look in the list in the red light camera page. it includes cities like gg, westminster, etc.

works great here

I live in Los Angeles and love the alerts! They save me everytime.

Thanks!!!!!

Unfortunately, only units with an MP3 player are compatible with the Custom Alerts.

MP3 Files

Kevin

If you are talking about the alert mp3s being discussed in this thread, they are combined along with the appropriate POI file into the POI.gpi file and loaded
into the POI folder on your GPSr.

Audacity

walleye1 wrote:

Excellent, Nick. I did one. "Warning speed trap ahead".
What do I need to convert it from a wav file to mp3??

I use Audacity (a free sound editing program) to create custom wav files and to convert those wav files to mp3.

Be sure to do your editing in wav format though and only save in mp3 once complete for best sound quality.

Audacity is kind of like a really fancy version of the sound recorder program that comes with Windows.

mp3

VBHS1999 wrote:

Kevin

put it on the same directory where you store your gpx or csv file. Just make sure you have the same file names not including the file extension. i.e

speed.csv
speed.mp3
speed.mpg if you have your own icon

Voice and Chime

johnf wrote:

GRRRRRR, I have done everything I can think of to get my C330 to give both voice and chime as is discussed in this thread. NO LUCK!

I have done the recording of the voice as directed by Nickjr and have converted the file to .mp3. I have verified that the file name is EXACTLY the same as the .csv file and have moved the voice file to the folder where the other POIs are stashed.

Any other suggestions? Am I wasting my time with a C330?

I do not believe you can automatically get a chime and a voice at the same time.

What I did is I got a chime wav file (actually, the four warning chimes in a F16 fighter). I then went to that website to create a wav file of the alert I wanted. Using Audacity (free sound editing program), I combined the warning chimes and the voice together and saved as mp3.

So, now I get:

[chime] [chime] [chime] [chime] Traffic Alert Ahead. Red Light Camera.

I left it as four chimes instead of just one chime only because it can sometimes be noisy in my vehicle with the radio. Don't want to miss the warning.

Edit ... sorry ... your gps has to be capable of playing mp3 files, not sure if the 330 is or not.

Has Anybody Read..........

how the cities intend to keep the camer lens and flash clean? It seems that after a length of time, they would accumulate a dirty film over them from the normal air pollutants, like rain, dust, exhaust fumes, and everyday grime which collects on windows, and would cause a hazy distortion. They are out in the open to all of it. It will be quite a project, and keep someone busy keeping the hundreds of them clean.

That sucks... The good part about that is that it gives me an excuse to upgrade in the near future.

Red Light Cameras in Houston

This is an awesome site that I just joined. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for having it. So many POI's. What do I need to do to get an active status ASAP as I want to get and add to the Houston camera POI you have. Thanks again.

Send Camera Info to Miss POI

If you have input for the Red Light Camera POI you can send that information directly to Miss POI to be added. Of course you need to first be able to download the POI file to check and see if your locations are already covered.

To download the redlight camera POI you need active status which means you can either make a small cash donation to the site and get instant active status. Of you can start posting to the forums and when you have three weeks in a row of posts, your status will go active. So cash to get it now, post to get it in a few weeks.

Welcome to the site!

New Red Light Cams in St. Louis

First of all, see the article on Red Light Cams iun St. Louis, in the current Riverfront Times,
http://www.riverfronttimes.com Based on that, I visually verified the 7 new, this morning, and sent them to Miss POI. Seems, like everywhere else in the country, they are not looked on too favorably, here.

Great Site

I just got my Nuvi 760 yesterday and am still trying to figure it out. All the info on this site is really helpful. But I can't seem to find how to pay the $5 fee for downloading the camera files. I know I can get them for free, but I'd rather pay now and then see if I can actually add anything useful on a regular basis. Also can't seem to find out what the $20 fee would buy. All in all, this a really great site. Thanks

If you go to the red light

If you go to the red light camera tab you will find an area that will take you to our checkout. For $5 you get a months access and for $20 you get a years.

The POI file and the mp3 file must be in the same folder. If they are already together, you still don't have the names the same (except for extensions).

Navigon

I have a Navigon 2100 and using POI-Warner3. Everthing appears to be set up properly, but I only get a visual warning of the red light cameras. No audio at all.

Error rate

How often do people encounter false alarms? How many of the cameras reported in the file turn out to be traffic cameras?

the system

oysterterp wrote:

A few years ago we were having a problem with false reports. We put some focus on educating the public about what the equipment looks like and now there are very few false locations in the file. Here is the page that was made to help with this process http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6698 .

Now that we have a really large user base it is very easy for me to get a second verification within days of a report before it goes into the file. I also have other resources that I use to make sure the data is good.
We are in the process of verifying all locations in all cities right now.

New York will be completed this week thanks to Islandersb.

What looks like an error...

oysterterp wrote:

Its also possible that what looks like an error, is really just a "proposed" sight that hasn't been installed yet. A while ago, I notified POI Factory about several announced sights, most aroung Tempe, AZ. For a while, nothing was actually there. But on some recent drives through the area I noticed that all of the sights that I was being alerted to now have equipment in place.

.

In the beginning I was adding future locations to the file and I have stopped doing that because I was spending so much time researching when the city changed their minds and didn't install them.

Some cities also abandon their programs and the only way for me to know is to be notified by the public. I sometimes get government reports about these situations but I usually let the users verify the information for me.

Miss POI

It seems the red-light camera intersections have signs posted informing drivers that the intersection is controled by a camera...My wife thinks that they have to be posted.

Yesterday I was driving down Burbank Blvd in the Van Nuys area, and got a red-light alert at Burbank Blvd & Fulton Ave & Busway... I did not see a camera, nor a sign informing drivers, etc... The coordinates are -118.422482,34.172085 on Google earth.

There may be a camera there, but while waiting for the red-light to change, neither my wife nor I could spot it.

The buses on the bus way have had quite a few accidents so it wouldn't surprise me to have one there, but in the interest of accuracy, I thought I would mention it….

If I am out that way again I’ll take a careful look, maybe take a few photos….

redlight cameras / Fayetteville, NC

Red-light cameras will be returning to Fayetteville, NC in the near future. They were disconnected due to a legal fight between the city and the school system over the distribution of the fines. That has been settled and with the conduit and cameras still in place it will not take much to get them reconnected. I live here and will keep you posted.

There is a link at the upper right hand corner of your screen to "report an enforcement camera".
